That's a bummer, Joji. Hopefully, it's something that can be fairly easily repaired.

Thanks, John.
I look it as a chance for me to improve the nib by a nibmeister.
I'm sure all it need is some tine adjustment.

Joji.
I am so sorry to hear about this. Never fear though your pen will be working beautifully very soon, Of that I am sure!

The nibmeisters out there are great an you have chosen one of the best IMHO.

John and Richard(Binder) are fantastic but they are just one or two people in their company's and their well earned succsess has caused major wait times (unless you purchase the pen from them!) I can attest to John's work on my Nakaya!

If Mike is too busy you might want to try Deb Kinney, she is held in the same esteem as John, Richard and Mike.
Here is a link.

Another who is held in very high esteem is Ron Zorn of mainstreet pens. I know personally several members of the pen club I belong to have used him and the results were wonderful.

I think we are so lucky to have all of these folks restoring pens. They are all equal I think, so you really won't get a bad result!

One thing is for sure, that pen of yours is worth every penny of a restoration and I know it it were me I would have the whole pen done whilst it is having the tines done. That way you won't have to think about it again for another 50 years!

Ian, no need to be sorry.
I consider this as my opportunity to work with nibmeister to bring the pen to its full potential
(and this one is well worth it) and I'm kind of looking forward for this.

Mike is out due to Atlanta Pen Show and his current turnaorund time is 7 weeks.

I was referred to Greg Minuskin by my friend in Orange County, California.
I did talk to Greg earlier and he can do it in 2 to 3 weeks turnaround time.
I sent in the writing sample photo and initial diagnostic is tine adjustment or clogged feed.

Joji, good luck in getting your MB #146 tweaked and meeting with your approval. I know you will be happy with the results and writing with that instrument will become fun. It's just too bad that you have to send it out in the first place. Is this normal that when you buy a new fountain pen that it would need to be sent out to get adjusted???

Leo, this MB146 is not new (looks new though).
The original owner had acquired as a corporate gift from his company in the 80s but accoridng to
Kai (2careless) this pen is from 70s (possibly even 60s).
I don't know the background as to how pen made in 70s (or 60s) was given out as corporate gift
in 80s but I'm looking forward for an adjustment by a nibmeister (it's a step-up).

Thanks, Leo.
I have not decided on nibmeister yet but I'll do a follow-up once
the work is completed.

Joji. I totally forgot about Greg, he is certainly in the same league as the others as well!

Ian, thanks for your comment on Greg.
I had good discussion/Q&A with Greg over phone and E-mail this afternoon.
2 to 3 weeks turnaround is hard to beat.

I remember there was a discussion about him as an alternative on an FPN thread. So many good things said about thim and you can't beat two to three weeks! I think Richard is up to about 6 months!

I do remember seeing that discussion on FPN.

I have chosen Greg to work on my MB146.

Btw, Greg learned his craft at the knee of none other than John Mottishaw, and
is even an expert in watch repair - very appropriate for TRF.

Your pen is in very safe hands Joji, it will be great to see what you think of it when it gets back! Any watches you are going to send as well
