John, that is a gorgeous pen! Many congratulations! I just love the way the light plays off of the celluloid. I'm sure it is even better in person.

I have recently experienced that some inks are more "dry" than others. I bought some Lamy Blue-Black to give it a try. It tends more toward black than blue, but what struck me more was how a typically *very* smooth, wet pen (my Parker Insignia IIP) really had more "feel" to it. So much so, that I really don't like it on smooth paper, such as the Clairefontaine, but rather the line it put down on cheap copy paper. This is quite the contrary to what I expected.

In the end, try some of your other inks. That may make a difference. I would hope the ol' paper bag trick wasn't necessary on a new pen, but you never know until you try.

Great input, thanks Jim. You're right, it's hard to capture the pens finish with photos. It really is a joy. I have several different inks now, so I'll try some of the others.

John, just remember you need to have a separate pen for each ink......and if you do not you have to buy more pens!!! LOL!!!

You know John, I actually know people who only use certain colour ink with certain colour fountain pens!

I went to a friends once and they had around a hundred bottles of ink and around three hundred pens.. I look at my miniscule collection and realize I am not a pen collector at all

I still say a bottle of PR copper burst would be stunning with your Omas..Just make sure that your wearing a nice brown leather jacket, brown shoes and a brown fedora otherwise the whole thing will be ruined: chuckle:

I'll have to give that color a try, Ian. I still have the Aurora blue in the Omas now, but as soon as I use up what's in the pen, I'm going to try the PR DC Supershow and see how that works. I'm getting more used to the pen, and it does write really well. I think whatever scratchiness I experienced can be chocked up to the fine nib (and probably crappy paper, too), which is a true fine nib compared to the Chopin.

As for 300 pens, yikes! They are addictive. I was looking at the showcases at World Lux on Saturday, and all the pens just look so beautiful under the lights. I could feel myself being sucked into this (wonderful) habit even further. What is it with men and shiny objects?!

I'm glad to hear it John. Something like that is like a JlC or Blancpain timepiece. An incredible work of craftsmanship that isn't recognised by the popular majority yet is an instant indication of appreciation of fine engineering and exceptional taste.

Now how do I persuade my wife to buy me one???

Well, the credit goes to Richard, as he suggested it. But once I started looking at them and reading reviews, etc, I got the bug pretty quick. Omas is a very interesting company with a long history of fine craftsmanship. That kind of thing has always appealed to me, and is probably the main reason I'm drawn to mechanical timepieces. The pens are just a very natural extension of this.

As for the wife, have you ever heard the old adage "I'd rather beg for forgiveness than ask for permission?"

Jokes aside, the wood grain look means they took really long time to manufacture after having to wait for each layer to cool down. Very very nice pen. Well done mate.
