MB146 has come back from Greg Minuskin

My MB146 has come back from Greg Minuskin this morning.

Greg found that tines were far too apart and there was a slight bent on one of the tines.
All issues was repaired and nib was smoothed.

After thorough flushing of the test ink used by Greg and drying I’ve filled the pen with Private Reserve – Ebony Purple.

The only thing I can say is it’s “Smoooooooooooooooooth!!!!!!!!”

I’ve never worked with nibmeister but Greg was very pleasant and made easy by prompt communication during the entire process (2 weeks!!).

I feel guilty of having this pen considering of my lousy handwriting.

FYI :

04/12 Made an initial contact to Greg via telephone
Sent photo of writing sample showing the problem
Received an initial diagnostics via E-mail

04/13 Shipped the pen from Louisville, KY to Tustin, CA via Priority Mail

04/15 The pen arrived to Greg’s PO Box

04/16 AM : Picked-up by Greg
PM : Diagnostics made and received quote via E-mail
I’ve authorized the work including nib smoothing and mailed the payment.

04/23 Received an E-mail from Greg along with photos of writing samples informing me that the work has been completed.

04/24 Greg made shipment from Tustin CA to Louisville, KY via Priority Mail

04/26 Arrived to Louisville, KY.

For some unknown reason I wrote "149" on the writing sample instead of "146"

Joji. I am so happy for you, what wonderful work from Greg!
Hopefully this will encourage folks to go the vintage route knowing how great an experience it is to be able to bring pens back to life and work reliably and realise that most things are capable of being repaired and reasonable cost. Just think, with normal care that pen of yours will be writing for many many years to come!
Great handwriting as well BTW

Ian, thanks for your kind words.
It's just amazing what nibmeister can do.
My MB146 did have problem but it was smooth enough but now it slides and glides
and someone like myself (a novice) can actually feel the difference is just amazing.
I'm spoiled now.

John, thanks for your kind words.
Do be careful as work by a nibmeister can be ADDICTIVE.

That's too cool

So what is the deal with Greg the Nibmeister? Turn around time seems amazing, and how do you like the result? Can he fix any pen, is it only the nib? How does one contact him? How do you know what it will cost?

How old is your 146?

You can go to :

http://gregminuskin.com/

I think he is only working on the nib but send him an E-mail with your needs.
E-mail address is "greg@gregminuskin.com"
He is very prompt on communication.
I'm just amazed with the result.

Btw, Greg learned his craft at the knee of none other than John Mottishaw, and
is even an expert in watch repair

As for the age of my MB146, I do now know the exact date but I know it's at least 28 years old since the orignal owner had recieved it as a corporate gift in '82 (I work for the same company).
It could well be made in mid to late '70s as well.

Thanks Phillip.
Greg is very pleasant to work with and the result is just amazing.
He sells FPs from time to time which has been adjusted by him to its true potential at a great price.
