Are new Rolex movements more or less durable/sturdy than the old ones?

Are the new 31XX movements more or less durable than the older 30XX and 15XX movements?

Either one will last a lifetime if properly maintained. Hard to call movements from 50 years ago less durable when they are still ticking today and keeping accurate time.

The movements of the 1960's, 1970's were called a work horse. Back then Rolex watches were used in all working conditions calling for a accurate time piece, divers depended on a Rolex for keeping them alive. Pilots used them for flying, The President of the United States had his Rolex keeping him on time, and so on, Now Rolex watches are more for showing off since we are in the digital age. I am still a wrist watch guy for life using mine for every day work.

They're all tough as nails. My own experience says the newer movements are less subject to positional variation.

i think the newer ones are more accurate because of their higher beat rate - but this is offset by the fact that the escapement will wear out quicker and require more frequent servicing.

Well first IMHO the finest movements Rolex made are the 15XX series very well over engineered. But even the slower beat movements had to pass the same COSC test and before the COSC a much tougher test.So a slow beat can be as accurate as a fast beat movement.Same for jewel count a lesser jewel could be as accurate as a higher jewel movement. Now IMHO the 15XX series and the 3035 the metals used were more durable and robust and hardened better than the Cal 3135.But the Cal 3135 is a fantastic movement with few faults except for the winding rotor shaft than can wear if not properly serviced.

No matter the movement Rolex watches have been worn and working for years. Look at all the people who buy and wear vintage watches!!!
