Just got my estinate call from the Dallas RSC

Last week I had sent in my 18078 Date-Date to the Dallas RSC for a service. They received the watch yesterday morning and called me this morning with an estimate and to address the couple comments on the form I sent in with the watch.

First let me say she was very pleasant and professional and answered any questions I had to my complete satisfaction. She told me the watch had a preliminary evaluation and they found the following (with prices).

1) The movement is in need of a service, the oils are dry, the tube and crown needs replacement as well as all gaskets. They will completely service/clean the movement and replace any necessary internal parts and oils. Price for factory service on a mens Day-Date: $750.00 + $46.00 return freight charge.

2) The crystal has a few very tiny chips at the edge (I never even noticed them) but nothing that will compromise its integrity, replacement is my option. I told her go ahead and replace it. Price: $135.00

3) The bracelet has minimal wear, the clasp blades are slightly bent and have a couple small gouges. They will repair and straighten the blades and refinish the entire clasp as part of the complete refinishing service.

4) I had asked they not remove the green sticker still on the case back on the form, but she suggested I have them remove it as it can trap grit and moisture which can damage the case back and it serves no purpose and Rolex recommends removal of the sticker right after the watch is purchased. I told her to go ahead and remove it.


She then explained that if any other issues come up after the watch is completely disassembled by a senior tech or if anything else is required they would let me know, as everything today was a preliminary appraisal of the watches condition and service requirements. She also explained the current turnaround is about 4 weeks and all the work now carries a full 2 yr. warranty.

So I now eagerly await my watch back looking and running like new!

A trip to the RSC is the best reason not to do the crazy aftermarket PVD coatings.... Can't wait to see the photos of your refresh!

Well worth it. You are a good Rolex owner...taking care of it. You will be happy when you get a brand new classic Rolex back from RSC.
You will forget about the $'s spent when it is back on your wrist.

I'm embarrassed to say I don't know. I purchased it from an older gentleman some time back who was the original owner, and I never asked. It wouldn't surprise me if it's never had a full service, but it still kept time to +4 sec. a day.

Dallas serviced my Yachtmaster last year and I was pleased with their service. They were very friendly.

I am also impressed with the 2 year warranty. Does anyone know if that is standard now? I received a 1 year warranty with service at the RSC.

It sounds like your watch will come back looking and running like a new one and for that I'm glad for you.

However, to pay over $900 to have a watch serviced that was keeping time within 4 seconds a day is ludicrous, IMO. Sorry. I think Rolex is way too proud of their service no matter how expert it is.

I'm wondering if I should call and get a quote on new hands while it's in for service? The lume on mine no longer really lume anymore. I'm guessing they couldn't be more than about $100.00 or so?

1-pair of Hands = $54
1-Second Hand = $27

This was back in Nov of 2008 when I sent my Father's watch to NY RSC.

Dallas will do an outstanding job on it. You'll be speechless when it comes back.
