Cracked Dial

OMG so I had my DJ in my back pocket because I was playing on my dog.
Things got a little too rough and he made me fall down on my bum.
Took out my watch and found the the window dial had cracked.....

Went to Tourneau to see how much it was. They explained to me that they couldn't do anything to the dial without first servicing the watch. I left my watch with them so they can give me an estimate. They also explained to me that the servicing doesn't include parts that might be required when they start servicing the watch.
Is this the case? Has anyone been in the same situation as well. Can someone give me an estimate of how much the servicing would cost? The dial repair as well, if anyone has a clue? Would a repair at Tourneau be the best solution or am I better off somewhere else?
Thanks in advance
ugh...

I'm not sure about the US but in Singapore, a straightforward service of a S/S Rolex watch costs around US$350-400, excluding replacement parts.

I have no idea what a DJ's dial costs but I once paid US$300 to have my Daytona's dial swapped from white to black.

As for whether to service at Rolex or elsewhere, my advice is to stick to an authorised Rolex center because even though it might be more expensive, you get genuine parts and best of all, they now give a 2-year warranty.

Hope this helps.

Good luck with your repairs and I would take the watch elsewhere other than Tourneau.....

Sorry for not using the correct words regarding my cracked dial. I meant the acrylic part of the dial (glass looking) Face I believe it's called?

I presumed the OP referred to a dial with date window . I was as puzzled as you were Anastasios It now seems to be the glass .
I recently had a DJ 1601 serviced , complete overhaul of the movement , case and bracelet polished and a new acrylic glass . 307 Euro .

Yes that's what i meant.. the acrylic glass part that you look through (wow i just read that and I sound like an idiot..but only want to make it as clear as possible)

Watch professor, i'm guessing you meant Wempe Jewelers on 5th ave?
You can find RSC's on the rolex website, correct?

complete overhaul of the movement
Did this include replacement of parts? At a RSC, are replacement parts seperate from the service? If so, what does a service entail?

Thanks again for everyone's help

That's known as the crystal.

They're often replaced during overhauls because they can pick up small chips around the edges from normal wear, and run about $100 if I remember correctly.

Don't take your watch to Wempe or Tourneau!
Take it to Rolex Watch USA directly at 655 5th Ave, NY NY.
Full service will entail total disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, new gaskets, polish, etc. Most replacement parts are extra. It will come back like new. Budget at least $600. It's worth it if it has never been properly serviced. Worn parts will be more expensive to replace in the long run.

Thank you all for the great advice. Going to Tourneau to pick up my watch tom and heading straight over to 5th ave. Very glad that I came here to get some advice from the gurus.
Just curious however, why no Tourneau?

They have a long service history...sometimes you get more scratches coming out of service than going into service... On my dad's cartier, they left the back scratched up and charged $100. Then my watchmaker charged $2 for a perfect job.

A few folks have hit on the main points. AD Retailers are fine (I know some people would disagree) for purchasing and getting the 'perks'...free polishing and branded merchandise, etc. When the retailers (yes, there are exceptions) take in watches for service, they often outsource and send watches to other service providers. They charge you a premium for this with no value added by them. The RSC gets plenty of 'overflow' work from retailers, so if you lice near one (NYC RSC, for instance), just cut out the middle-man/woman.

STOP
Now I get it and I doubt you need a complete service if the watch is running good.
Personally I would just change the crystal if it is sapphire and polish off the scratch
if it is acrylic.
300 or 600 bucks for a service is a lot of money when you do not need it
especially if your problem is a minor repair.

It's acrylic..not sure if I can polish it off..it's a pretty deep crack. I feel the seperation of the crack when I run my fingers along the bezel
and yes that is definitely the last time I'm ever putting my watch in my backpocket...
