Checked Out An Estate Jeweller - WAS BLOWN AWAY!!

Guys I can't believe the selection of fine watches and oh yes - Rolexes - I just came across.

They had EVERYTHING all in amazing condition most with box and papers looking brand new! I'm talking 5 SS Daytonas, WG Subs, SS subs, YM 's, DD, DD II even 3 DJ II's!

Not to mention a ton of other daytona's, DJ's, Tudors, Rollies galore from looking brand new to sweeet vintages!

Anyone in Toronto that hasn't been to Van Rijk I highly recomend it!

On top of all that they were WAY friendlier then the people at Royal De Versaille..

This could be bad.. My new condo is RIGHT accross the street from this place

If you can't tell I'm very excited

The one thing I thought was a bit crazy was the price of the SS Daytonas -

$12,000.00 - a bit above the Canadian MSRP and she said they sell very fast with a very small discount IF at all!

Everything else was at a pretty good discount - slightly less then our fine members here on TRF can offer but these are also gently used. Just another one of life's tough decisions lol

Not saying that these are bad deals. There is a high markup on many luxury items and estate sales can be pretty good places to shop for goodies (like gold and diamond blingies). Our problem is that we typically like the more-mechanical gadgets. I have never shopped for watches that way, but it could be good! Hmmm...thinking...

Good for you. The last one I visited here in Halifax was like great if you are an up and coming Rap star but for a guy like me all the custom Rolex bling was not so cool at the office if you know what I am saying? Homeboys.

Just checked out the website. Seems interesting, it gives a rough idea on some of the prices. Good find!

I have been there and done business with the folks there. Alec knows what he's doing but the woman in there has a chip on her shoulder. She knows a lot but talks a lot of baloney trying to make a sale. Although they have an impressive stock you will quickly realize that the prices generally...suck for Rolex. Especially on Daytona's as you found out. GMTs I see selling on TRF for 4-5 grand are closer to 6-7 grand here and then the tax... you can barely get a discount paying cash. I know most sales here are from the states so it kinda burns being on this side of the border sometimes. But I digress, I was in there for a while the first time and she'll run out of patience fairly quick if you like browsing and trying things on. She wasn't expecting it when I left to ponder my decision; but that's when I returned, pulled the trigger and scored my Y series LV. I paid a bit more than I wanted to but worth it in my opinion.

Make sure you know what you're looking at and know what prices should be when you go there. Also, a lot of stock is not up front you have to ask for things if you're trying to find something specific. Have fun!

heads up- they are ridiculously overpriced, and very rude. They do not like people trying on more than a couple watches, and they get annoyed if you dont buy. The woman (Pita)? with dark hair is very rude, and gives you real pressure to buy. Any Rolex that they sell that is of recent vintage you can buy CHEAPER from an authorized dealer with any type of negotiating. And they low ball you on trade offers also, which makes it worse.

Pina is her name but PITA is a great acronym for her. Pain In The...you understand?

I've heard a fair number of people in T.O. who are acquainted with van Rijk

describe the place as a 'pawn shop', giving the lowest possible prices for anything they buy, and charging hugely inflated prices for everything they want to sell. They do not have a good reputation there.

van rijk might as well move down to church st and start buying used power tools (would also say stolen items, but im sure they already do).

I've been there many times and each visit I leave with a bad taste in my mouth. Prices are ridiculous and Pina (I like jets' acronym better) is terrible to deal with after she can't tell if you're going to buy or not in the first two minutes.

I suggest you stay away. There are many better used rolex dealers in the GTA and beyond.
