To refurbish bracelet or not???

My one year old Sub's bracelet is severely scratched (surface scratches, nothing deep) from 1 year of rubbing against my desk at work. The rest of the watch is immaculate. I have just picked up a beater to wear to work on a daily basis. Should I go ahead and get the bracelet fixed as I will no longer be wearing it to work? It kinda bothers me that that is the only portion of the watch that shows wear. I'm a little hesitant to do so because my fear is that it will turn out worse for some reason or something ill will happen during refurbishing. Any advice??? Thanks. good to have TRF back up.

I would go ahead and refinish it. As long as nothing is really deep (catches your fingernail) it's a relatively easy thing to do on your own using inexpensive pads, or you can have it done if you're uneasy to do it yourself.

No, definitely nothing deep. Just a lot of scuffing from contact with my desk at work. I am am hesitant to do it myself, but I don't know who else I trust to do it either... Will RSC just do a bracelet?

I don't think the RSC will just refinish your bracelet only with no other services being done, and even if they would it would be expensive for something you could easily do on your own IMO. There is really very little chance of screwing it up using the correct grit / grade abrasive sponges, a Scotchbrite pad, or steel wool and rubbing in one direction. You could also practice on an old cheap SS band first.

Remove the clasp, tape down the links to a hard surface, and use a scotchbrite pad keeping your strokes very straight. Then polish w/ #0000 steel wool to refine the finish. Pretty easy and the results will be better than you think.

Very easy,cheap and just may suprise yourself...Just try not to rub to much over the Rolex crown(Don't want to rub that off...)!

Russ, I wouldn't even give it a thought. No matter where and when you wear it your going to get scratches. Hell, every 5 to 10 years, when you get it serviced it be as good as new again!

Thanks for the tip, but I don't plan on going anywhere near the clasp...I like my coronet just the way it is!! haha

I think if it wasn't for the fact that it is only the 12o'clock side if the bracelet that is beat to hell I wouldn't be worried about it. The watch is immaculate, but it looks like I replaced the 12o'clock side with a 20 year old bracelet (exaggerating slightly) I'm a little worried about trying it myself...I'll have to see if I have the guts to do it....

I let a friend of mine wear my Sub for a week or so and the bracelet came back an absolute wreck. I was bummed out at first but after 5 minutes of work with the pad, it looked immaculate.

I normally do not do work myself as the last time I installed a toilet I flooded the house, the last time I tried to do some work on my Datsun 240z I broke part of the carburetor, so I was pretty hesitant in doing the brush work myself. After reading some how-to posts on here, I worked up the courage and was surprised at how simple it was.

Best of luck! If you are still not sure, take it to an AD or trustworthy independent watchmaker who has worked on Rolexes before. I'm sure they'd have it done in 2.5 minutes instead of 5 :).
