Rolex Day Date White Gold
Hello fellow owners!
I have recently purchased a white gold day date Rolex, this is my first Rolex watch so I have a few questions. (Photo below) I need to remove a link from the bracelet, is there any DIY or step-by-step guide or do I must take it to the jewlery store? How do I set the day and date? I tried to do it so by having the crown unscrewed to the point where it is free of the screw threads and it seems that position is for winding it, right? Then I pulled out the crown a lil more and I can set the time, if I advance the time I can change the day and date but im sure there must be a way to set the date or day too. Please help me on this one! |

get the right size screwdriver. you can determine the right size by using some good magnifying glasses. unscrew 2 links removing one and replace one screw. don't loose link they are a few hundred each. as far as setting, pull the crown all the way out. increase time until the date changes. then proceed to the right time. push crown in 1 position. turn clockwise until correct date. then turn counterclockwise until day is right. push crown in 1 position and wind 40-50 times. replace crown till finger tight and enjoy.

Mike:
Thanks a lot for the prompt response! In order to tighten the bracelet then I just unscrew two links and replace one screw, right? perfect! sounds totally easy! as far as setting the time and day/date, if I DONT pull the crown all the way out first then I wont be able to change the date and day even if i push it to the first position? When I unscrew the crown, on the first position, when its apart from the threads I can move it clockwise and counterclockwise and all I hear is a sound like if it was winding it or something but the date does not change nor does the day, then if I pull it out to the last position I can perfectly change the time, do I pull it to the last position all the way out once before pushing it to the first position? When does it wind with teh crown, I thought the first position was for winding, Im a bit lost sorry Thanks a lot for your help and knowledge |

I only hear one click, maybe this watch does not have the feature to set the day and date from the crown? I unscrewed the crown, when loose it appears it winds, then when I pull it all the way out I only hear one lick, if I push it down one lick its loose again like if it was ready to be winded... help on this please!

I removed a single link from the watch last night, I also seen its model the case says #1803 and its serial is 51506## which I think its a Rolex made in 1977.

There should be a "quick set" on this model.....a way of changing the date quickly but NOT the day.....OK, unscrew the crown and pull it right out to the furthest it will go, this will hack (stop) the movement, probably best to do this just as the second hand hits the 12 o'clock position (assuming the watch is running)....wind the time forward until the day is right and the time is right....be sure to watch when the date changes so you know you are a.m. or p.m.....but ignore the actual number of the date.......once you have the watch reading the right time and day (you obviously need to start it again to a reliable time source) by pushing the crown back in, you will find that the crown is back in the winding position, as it is normally when it first becomes free of the threads........OK, now pull it out very gently, it should pull out one finer click and NOT hack the movement....this is the date quickset position, rotate the crown to correct the date......push in the crown again and screw finger tight....that's it!

What a beautiful piece! Wear it well!
Those white gold models are very nice, they fly under the radar a bit, whereas yellow gold can be spotted a mile away. Very nice example of a Day Date there. |

Hey no worries...I have a 1984 YG DD......I love it.....it is sometimes a pest setting the day if it stops, generally I don't mind because it gives me a chance to "play" with it!!!....later versions had a double quick set, this means you can pull the crown out gently to the second position (first click) and one direction of the crown changes the day, the other changes the date....the philosophy behind the single quickset is very simple....an automatic Rolex (or any other brand) will run all the time if worn all the time....there are always the same 7 days in the week, therefore if it doesn't stop then the day will always be right....however there are some months with less days than 31....so of course even if you never take the watch off the date will still need to be adjusted every once in a while....hence the need for the quick set date....

Thank you a lot DWdrummer, I will try to wear it well and care it properly too!
Yeah, white gold indeed fly under the radar, I like this model with the diamond bezel and dial, this is my first Rolex watch, my dad used to own a Datejust two tone with the oyster band but I dont use it cause he passed away! I took this watch to Rolex for a service but they said they couldnt service it because its dial and bezel is not original Rolex... that sucks! |

That's Rolex policy....they do not budge on it....however there are independants who will service it......but Rolex are tightening up on the independants with parts accounts....could well be worth getting it serviced soon, then at least you know it is sorted for the next 5 to 8 years....

$7000 for a non-quickset sounds like a good deal.
I don't think the RSC will turn down a service because you have aftermarket parts. They will just insist that they replace it with OEM parts before servicing. Congratulations!
