I thought I read somewhere that the dials were the same size.

I can't say for sure...but the sense I got when holding them side by side, was that the dials were the same...

this is one of my issues with the DDII - the proportions are off..it's all bezel and case.

Now the dials may not be the SAME size, but one thing is for sure, the DDII dial, if different, did not grow in proportion to the case and bezel...

I know that this does nothing to answer the OPs question, but I thought I'd add to the confusion, and keep this thread alive until an authority can post...

If the dials are interchangeable, that would explain why the proportions look "off".

I think they are the same too. As well as the DJ and DJ II dials!

I have been thinking about buying a DJ II and putting an original DJ dial on it actually!

DD 36mm dial
DDII 41mm dial

I'm sure you can fit a DDII dial into a DD with some grinding......

Is that the case measurements or the dial?

No, those are the case measurements.

The rub is the fact that the DDII has a thicker bezel in proportion to a DJ.

No, the dials are definitely bigger on the DD II, they're not interchangable. If they were, the DD II and DJ II would have a bigger dial selection, and wouldn't repeat the same basic designs
