Explorer II in Bangkok

Looking today at some Explorer IIs. Really like this watch the more and more I look at it! Had a nice White dial one, first time I ever saw one in person. Now I understand. Photos do not do this watch justice. Only problem was it was a F series. I offered a much lower price, but the AD stood firm at 15% off retail, same as all the other watches and all the other ADs in BKK are doing.

Also looked at a SS Datejust with Silver dial and Oyster Bracelet. Z Series. Very nice and suprised by how heavy the watch is with the new cases.

Also looked at a IWC Spitfire. BEst bracelet I have ever seen. The Sales Clerk did not know nothing though when he told me nice watch, but you can not go swimming with it. Huh?? IT is water resistant to 60 meters! I would not go diving with it, but would not hesitate to take it swimming!

Too many nice watches here! Must get to 3rd world country like Nepal or Laos soon, so no Rolex ADs to tempt me!

15% off retail doesn't seem bad to me, but in L.A. you have to fight to get anything off at all.
How do you tell the letter of the series- is it engraved on the watch?
Thanks. Larry.

The letter is part of the serial number and can be found engraved on the case at 6 o'clock. But you still have to take the bracelet off to see it.

Great watch and now I know why. I am a proud father to a D series Explorer II I got today that is only 9 months old. All original papers including unsigned warranty and it had the halogram. Love it.....

Love the Explorer II, it was the first Rolex I owned with the white dial.
I guess I'm just not a white dial kind of guy, but the Explorer is a great watch whatever colour you prefer.
Enjoy Thailand, it's a fantastic country.

Those areas pretty much disgust me. No intention of even going near those two places. They give a real black mark to Thailand and are very depressing places.

I lived and worked in Thailand before and speak Thai, in some ways it is like a second home for me. I prefer to visit the Northeast and North of Thailand.

Thanks JJ. Am I to understand that if someone cares a lot about serial numbers and letters, they ask the dealer to take the band off of each watch they are interested in?

LOL! Not at all, my friend. The serial number can be had straight away from the green "Swimpruf" hang tag or even the Warranty Certificate.

When the watches are new in the box, the serial number is on the green hang tag, certificate as well as (in my experience) on the outer box sticker.

You speak Thai Chad? Sawadee Kap! So youve been to Changmai? Great place. Enjoy your stay in thailand.

Yes, I speak Thai. The US Army sent me to Thai language school and then was deloyed to Thailand to work as an advisor. Also worked here in Thailand for a wildlife conservation organization after got out of the military. Have never been to Chiang Mai yet, but all the places around it. Chaing Rai, Sukhothai, Phitsanolok, etc... I really like the Far North of Thailand and the Mekong River area that borders Laos. Here in Bangkok for couple more weeks, then off to Laos. Staying in the Dusit area of Bangkok. Very nice here. Old Buildings, not much traffic, tree lined sidewalks and streets, and several nice parks and a zoo nearby for walking.

Yes, I did buy the Explorer II. Bought it yesterday! Bought it and a IWC UTC. My watch collection is complete now. May sell the Sub LV, will see.

The IWC is really nice! The other brand besides Rolex that I am infatuated with.

The Explorer II is a great watch. Got the Black Dial. The white dial was a little to sporty/winter sports for me. THe black face and SS bracelet and bezel really look nice. Seems to be about 1mm smaller in Diameter as well and like how the bezel slopes downward. Very rugged and simple watch!
