3185 movement ????
This is a picture of a 2002 and 2003 3185 movement. I can’t get over the difference in the two? Could one be a fake? Or did they change that much in one year. I can’t 100% confirm the dates and from other websites it’s hard to pick out which one is correct or if they just changed? I am not up to date with the 3185 movement but I am looking to buy a GMT so I would like to get to know it a little better. Hell it might be me are they the same

I think it's basically just the lighting.....it seems very different in each of the pictures....movement looks the same to me too

The cal 3185 was introduced 1988/9 and has remained unchanged though out its life to present day. There was a slight modification to the cal 3185 quite recently into the cal 3186 that gave slightly better second time zone setting.Same for the Cal 3135 introduction 1988/9 and unchanged except now some have the in-house escapement parts. The only difference I can see is the winding rotor is in different positions in the pictures.

The resting position of the winding rotor on the second picture is a couple of cm clockwise. Considering it spins freely to do it's job this should not be something to get concerned about. 1.jpg2.jpg Are you sure you're not just pulling our tails?

+1 Paul.
The rotor position is giving you a peek of different parts of the movement.

all 3185 movements are the same. can't tell which is real or fake from just ONE shot. if you want authenticity check, it's best to take them to an experienced rolex certified watchmaker. otherwise, like many have said above, they both look the same except the positioning of the escapement wheel.

the photo of the second watch shown is not over exposed. some watch people/jewelers will take their photos under those high-powered work bench lamps, and it washes everything out.
