My SD Braclet - Rolex Canada - The Final Chapter

Looks like the saga with regards to my faulty SD braclet has finally drawn to a conclusion.

I called my AD yesterday afternoon from the office just before I left home for the day. I asked the service lady if they heard anything with regards to my watch which I dropped off a week ago. She put me on hold to take a look and came back telling me that the courier just came from Rolex and my watch was included in the afternoon run. It was ready for me to pick up anytime. Seeing as I didn't have the service ticket with me and there was no way for me to make it before closing, I told her I'd pick the watch up Saturday afternoon.

So, I walked into RDV this afternoon with ticket in hand wondering what it was that Rolex may have done to correct the problem. The store was empty but as it was raining outside all day, I figured no one was out window shopping. I guess they have more hotties on staff as there were more girls around today than usually on a weekday. I handed my ticket over to one of the young girls and said hello to the service lady. The girl pulled out an oversized envelope from one of the drawers containing my watch. Before opening it, she read what Rolex did to my watch off of the side of the envelope. Turns out Rolex Canada simply just replaced my original braclet with a brand new one. None of that replacing the link/pin crap. Inside the envelope was the typical gold Rolex box containing my watch. The girl openned the box up and inside was my watch as well as the Cellini Rolex polishing cloth. The girl pulled my watch out of the box and examined the braclet. The braclet had a couple of the Rolex stickers on it, so the young girl peeled those off and handed the watch over to me to inspect.

I looked over the braclet carefully and folded it and checked all the links (especially the areas that I was having a problem with), as well as the clasp and everything else. Everything checked out great. The service lady smiled and said "You're pretty fortunate to get a new braclet, next time remember that if you have any problems, bring the watch directly to us and we'll take care of it". I assured her that next time I would. As I didn't have a watch on me, the service lady adjusted it for the time and handed it back to me. I slapped it on and thanked her and walked over to the Rolex counter to thank my sales lady and the manager for taking care of the issue for me.

She apologised again to me about how Rolex Canada treated me. She asked again who I talked to when I was there. I told her I talked to nobody except the service counter girl. She said that was unfortunate and that Rolex really was a good company and she figured that by the looks of things, either the braclet was really f-ed up or that Rolex Canada was trying to make amends by just replacing the braclet outright.

I asked to see a couple of watches from her case, most notably the TT Blue Sub. I've been reading all the hype in here about it, so I figured I may as well take a good look at it. It's ok I guess. I thought it would have hit me harder looking at it personally, but holding it in my hand didn't exactly make me want to whip out the credit card to buy it. She asked me with a smile if I was looking to buy something today. I told her not exactly, but that I wanted to check out a couple of models while I was in there. She finally got the shipment of Sub-Dates in, and she still had the lone LV in the case. They have just about every watch in stock except the SS Daytona and that new 50 Anniv. GMT. She showed me a picture of it in the catalog and said she would be getting a couple in over the next few weeks if I was interested. I asked her about the SS Daytona and she said they only get 2 a year and they don't have a waiting list as the owner get's those and sells them personally to big customer's. She said that she could get me anything I wanted except that SS Daytona.

I took a look at the Rolex Air King as I've never looked at it before. It looked nice, but the face-dial is waaaaaaaaaay to small for my wrist. In my opinion, it's pretty much a ladies watch.

I asked her if she heard any rumours about a pricing increase in the early future. She said that Rolex was due as they hadn't increased their prices in Canada since 2005. She pulled out a November 2006 price list that matched my February 2006 price list. She also said she had no more catalogs either and was expecting a new updated version soon. I asked her what were the typical price increases. She said that on the professional models, price increases were typically in the 7-10% range.

FYI, she did tell me that Cartier just increased some of their prices.

That was about it. I shook her hand, thanked her again and told her to have a good weekend and left.

One question for you guys though. When you get a Rolex watch back from repairs, doesn't Rolex give you the Cellini polishing cloth to keep????????? I thought they did, however, the service lady just used it to lightly buff my watch and then tossed it inconspicuously into a drawer under the counter. I found that odd, but with all that's been going on with this watch, I couldn't care less anymore (much less make an issue about a piece of material) and was just glad to get the watch back in excellent condition.

I know I have shown my outright disgusted here in the forums with regards to my treatment by RSC Canada, but never vented at either RSC Canada or at my AD, BUT, when I was at my AD dropping the watch off a week ago they could clearly see I was unhappy with what was going on. I sincerely believe that had I not been as assertive as I was, that RSC Canada would not have replaced the braclet. I'm sure my AD manager called up RSC and gave them crap over this also prompting them to make a quick decision about it.

In anycase, the problem's been solved and I hope I don't have to deal with any more service issues until it's time for this thing to go in for regulation and a cleaning...............many years from now!

That's awesome, Kris! I'm glad to hear RSC swapped the bracelet out for a new one. Hopefully you'll have many trouble free years with your SD.

I wonder if they will get me a new bracelet if I tell them that the hidden clasp is scratching itself.

Whoa!! Thank the Lord for some good service at last.

Kris, I am very, very happy for you!! It's great that they gave you a new bracelet.....the least they could do considering the run around they gave you and the fact that it's a brand new watch.

Sometimes, we need to "bang table" to get some attention. May not be the best way, but definitely effective!!

Thanks for the story. Seems ROlex always comes through on their service. Glad you got the new bracelet. They could have sent it back to you with just a NATO on it!!!
