Hello to all and thanks for the opportunity to vent. Purchased a new Sub from a AD and now have it in for stopping for the second time. Rolex telling the AD nothing wrong. AD being very nice but can't get the problem to occure in there shop. Intermittenly the watch will stop after being idle for 6-7hrs. Watch is worn every day 10-12hrs, will stop overnight.
Possiably is there a Tech out there with an idea???? Anyone have a problem like this???? First of all, welcome to the club! Now, this being a new sub, wind it FULLY (takes a good 40-50 turns) so you have all power reserve available. If you wear your watch daily and let it rest at night the watch my not be fully wound and therefore stop after some time. If you fully wind it once and then use it daily, it should run for over 36 hours when idle. |

If it is still under warranty take it back to the AD you bought it from.

ADDITIONAL INFO----watch was purchased new in 05, started to act up at about 12mo old. Intermittenly will stop while resting overnight after 6-7hrs.
Purchasing AD sent into Rolex and returned to me as repaired. After another 10mo or so problem reoccured. AD now tells me Rolex finds nothing wrong. This is 7th Rolex I've owned in past 20yrs never having a problem like this before. AD very understanding but problem will not reoccure while he has the watch. Is there a ROLEX TECH out there that can shead some light on my problem? At this point I'm probably SOL in getting any sort of replacment, any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks--- |

If the watch is still under warranty, take it back to the AD.
Preferably when it has stopped one morning.

How important is this 40 turn wind up????? Have had seven other Rolex items inc two Presidents and now third Sub. AD never said anything about manual winding. When stopped just putting on my wrist is enough to get it running and may continue for 1-2wks before stopping again.

Power reserve for a fully wound sub would be around 48 hrs not 1 - 2 weeks.

If the watch is stopping and you are wearing it for more than 8 hrs a day, then there is a problem. As has been said the power reserve for this model is 48 hrs approx.
It could be a problem with the automatic winding mechanism or in the "going" train itself. Just because the AD said they returned it to Rolex does not necessarily mean they did!?! Ask for it to be returned to Rolex and tested. The warranty is 2 years (but the RSC I work for will cover them for up to 3 years) When you take it back to the AD to have it sent to the RSC, get the AD`s repair reference number. You should be able to contact the RSC directly with your name and the AD`s ref and consult them about the problem. Give as many details as possible, how long you wear it a day, wheather you take it off at night, does it stop in wear, etc.. The more info the RSC gets upfront the better. Good luck. Ironstark---Thanks for the advise, I'll probably proceed along thouse lines if not successful with my AD.
Roadcarver---believe I said once started it ran for 1-2wks before stopping again. |
