Need Help or Opinions in Trade Possibility
I may be going to purchase a Patek 5146 in WG with WG bracelet.
I think the watch is awesome! I was given an offer to apply toward the purchase $17,000 in trade monies for one (1) of my neverworn SS Daytona(s) and one (1) SS Daytona I wear every once-in-while. I have one (1) more SS Daytona I've never worn over-and-above the ones slotted for trade that I thought I'd keep because I love this watch also. What gives? What should I do? I could really use the $17,000 reduction applied to the new one. Help Please! Michael |

So you are the reason I can't get a SS Daytona. You have them all.

Just built a collection of them over time by putting my name on the list and buying them as my name was drawn.
Took a good long time to get them. All from AD. That's why I'm not sure I should just let them go. |

I would definitely trade one SS Daytona towards a PP.
You have THREE, and I assume they are all similar. A PP would be a great addition to your collection. Just my 2 cents worth. John. |

Sell or trade one Daytona. Good luck. Many people would love to be in your shoes, including myself.

I sort of had a system of collecting these Daytonas before this offer was presented to me.
I started with the black faced one that I wear every once-in-awhile. Then purchased the white faced one so I had both faces. As mentioned, this I've never worn. Then thought since I had a white faced one I'd never worn why not get a black faced one I'd never worn. The two (2) Daytonas I may be trading are the black faced "used" and the black faced "never worn." I seem to gravitate toward the lighter-colored faces. So, I was going to keep the white faced one. By the way, thanks for your opinions/suggestions. I'm probably making this a bigger deal than it should be but, I'm really in a quandry about the deal. Keep the Rollers or you will regret it. Pateks are great, but won't replace what you have. And you are not redundant given your plans and reasons for getting the watches that you have.

Trade 1 black face Daytona. Keep 1 white face and 1 black face for yourself.

FWIW, I would keep the DTs and forego the PP, but that's just MHO.

If you plan on keeping the Patek then go for it. Most Pateks don't hold any resale value.....except the very rare ones which can go into millions.
Personally, I'd rather stick with the Rollies. JJ

Seems like you can get SS Daytonas from ADs....I say trade them and keep one for yourself, can always get more Daytonas later.

Pateks,
Good for dinner with the Senator and the country club interview. They are beautiful box jewelry. If I can't sail with it, it is usually in the drawer. |

Look at this way, you are trading $18k in Rollies (rough estimate on what you could sell them for) for a $17k credit on the Patek. Pretty close on that part of the deal.
Your other choice is to sell the Daytonas and pocket +/- $18k to apply later on the Patek purchase. Find another dealer who has the same Patek (or the first one for that matter) and get them to better the "before trade" price you got from the first guy. You might be able to lower your net cost on the Patek by a couple of grand. I equate this similiar to a car purchase - you will get a better deal all cash with no trade. Assumptions - that the Patek isn't one of a kind and that you will be able to find a similar one elsewhere. Side note - I agree with the prior comment - Pateks don't have great re-sale value (but for the special editions and vintage models). K4S |

I knew when I asked for opinions I've come to the right place.
Thanks. 999 out of 1,000 times I know what I want and I usually don't listen to suggestions -- stubborn, huh? In this case you guys/gals have helped me greatly. I may hold on to the rollies. Trading just one is the best idea. I've been contemplating the trading of the used one and could start wearing one of the unworn ones -- but -- the cost differential is sort of what some people have paid for a house purchase. If I trade just one I don't know if I'm interested in parting with all of the cash just yet. Thanks so much -- If you still have opinions/comments I'm still listening. Personally I have no idea why there is such hype over the SS Daytonas - they do nothing for me. The PP in question is a very nice watch, and obviously not meant for sailing or other sport use...
I would flip the Daytonas and get the PP. Although the Daytona is hot and has been for some time, I believe that bubble will burst eventually. I would put my money on the PP holding value in the long term more than the Daytona, but whatever. YMMV. |
