The new Submariner has made me love my GMTc more than ever...

Does anyone else feel this way?

For a while my only issue with the GMT was that it lacked a certain

'Rolexesque' quality...

A number of times I considered trading it back for a 16610...

I saw the new sub the other day and I have to say, it's a fine watch, and If I were to buy a SS sub, it would be the 116610 over the 16610, but, it was nothing really special.

What it did for me was instantly make me love my GMTc even more!!

I think that the Sub sets the standard for Rolex, and now my GMT "feels" like a Rolex, and I love it more than ever!!!

I've have not had the privledge of owning a Sub, but since the GMTIIC and the SUB look so much alike I am not sure that I will ever see the need of owning a Sub.

If I get another, I currently would like to have a SS Daytona.

The watches are very similar up front - to the non-wis they may only really notice the PCL's verses brushed bracelet of the sub and MAYBE that the bezels are different but I doubt they'd notice that lol

To us there are very obvious differences and uses for the watch but I concur with your statement - it would be one or the other for me!

Unless the GMT was TT, then maybe I'd still get a Sub C :) just MHO

In my eyes, the new 116610 Sub Date-C is almost identical in appearance to the iconic 16610 Sub date that it replaced.
In contrast, the 116710 GMT2-C and 16710 GMT2 are very different in appearance.
I agree that the most obvious difference between the the Sub-C and the GMT2-C are the polished vs. non polished center links.

It would come down to the PCLs for me.

For the casual buyer, the consideration would probably be how the watch will be used.

16610 is the end of the sub story in my opinion...

Me not, no.

I think I am going to sell my GMTIIc now that I have got the SubC black; don't like the bezel anymore, the numbers are too fat.

I'm not sure I quite understand the logic here, but if it makes you happy, I'm all for it! :-)

Fair assumption. But give the 116610 a fair chance, so give it enough time, as a worthy opponent.

I agree the logic is somewhat blurry..

basically I had always loved the GMTc but I always thought that it didn't quite seem like a rolex...

that lacking in "rolexness" always plagued me...

But now that the rest of the oyster sport line has caught up, the definition of "rolexness" has changed, and now the GMTc fits in! - maxi-dial, maxi case, ceramic bezel.

for whatever reason, the GMT feels like a rolex to me now.

I think it's because of the new Sub...

Yeah I just saw the new subs. The LV looks wrong to me and the black is nice but boring. Yay Deepsea.

I agree, I would much rather have the GMT2c than the new sub.

This is one of the things that turned me off from a 116710 and led me to go for the 16710.

simple logic..Ten feet from the wrist and you cant tell the difference between the two except from may be the pcls.. and the price difference of 2 grand.. I would add another two and get a Millie

honestly the bezel numbers are very subtle due to the reflection from the ceramic.. they almost blend in.. my wife keeps telling me to sell off the 16610 they look so similar.

I own a GMTIIc and if I had to do it again I would buy the Sub, the PCL's don't do it for me and the sub bezel is so much cleaner.

When I bought the GMTIIc it was a no brainer, better bracelet, better movement, better bezel, nowadays, not so much...

I don't plan on selling, I'm just saying, given the choice today it would be a sub.

Now a new Sub LV, that would be a nice addition!

I'll keep my GMTIIC

I am enjoying my GMTIIc and i'll keep it long term.

Don't feel the need for a Sub, because it looks so similar.

I also own an Omega Seamaster Pro and it looks like the Sub, too.

I think I have the black bezel sports watch field covered.

i was loving my SS GMTIIC before i tried the Sub-C in person. i was even wearing the SS GMTIIC on the day.

agree that both would look the same from a distance by non-WIS.... but come on, who do we really wearing the watch for at the end of the day?

2nd day with the Sub-C, and im still trying to get used to the smaller ceramic bezel insert markings than the GMTIIC.... but all is well.

the 116610 def. feels more "solid" than 16610, but feels "the same" as the SS GMTIIC imo.

love them both

Its the lack of a Pepsi or Coke bezel that makes the GMTIIc look like a Sub. Even with my 16710, when I swap the Pepsi bezel to the black, to the untrained eye the watch is virtually indistinguishable from a Sub. Both models share the generic Rolex look that we all love so much.

I totally agree. I find that the GMT IIC has more character than the new Sub, that's why I just bought the original 16610.
