How do you wind a Sub?

I just bought a SS Sub. It ran out of power the other day and I went to manual wind it in Position 1 (Crown just off the treads).

While i was winding nothing happened. I tried turning the crown in both CW and CCW direction.

The second hand will only start moving if I shake the watch. Is there something I'm doing wrong here with the manual winding?

Please help a newb.

Position 1 is where it is to wind it.
If nothing happened, did you try pulling the crown out a little more. Sometimes you need to pull the crown out a little more to engage the winding mechanism.
If it still doesn't work, take it back to your dealer.
Good Luck

Sometimes it's easier to find position 1 by starting with the crown pulled to position 3 and working in. It stuffs up your seconds, but you can fix that. Otherwise, position 1 is often a bit "further out" than you expect, as Steve says. The sensation of winding is very much as you'd expect it to be.

As they others have told you ...find the position where it starts winding.
If this doesn't work, get it serviced.

Unscrew the crown and make sure that the crown "springs out" so that it is free from the threads.
Turn the crown CLOCKWISE (not back and forth) about 30 FULL turns.
By that time, the watch ought to start by itself (second's hand start moving without shaking the watch).
Screw back the crown and wear the watch as often as you can to prevent it from stopping. This will make the hairspring be tense all the time, ensuring a perfect timekeeping (that is if the watch is regulated "well", and that is again if the watch is regulated to harmonize with YOUR personal carrying habits: still sitting work? / high activity life? / etc.).
So what another member replied in this thread (something to that extend): "Just wear the watch". That is very good advice. The guy is right
