Rolex dream smashed ...

Yep it is honestly true. My best friend (also my spouse) totally smashed my latest dream. I had the one of the Rolex catalogs open to the Glacier Blue Platty DD and she said "yuck".

On the good side she is open minded so we need to do a face to face with watch. We have a trip to San Diego in 2 weeks so maybe I can get Tony to scout one out we could visit up in person.

Now I am totally confused because of the dozens of Rolex watches I have had and every trip to a multiple international AD, we have been extremely tight on likes and dislikes.

Getting her to see it in person is the right move. She will love it once she has a chance to hold it and admire the craftmanship and beauty of the Platinum DD.

I think you really need to see it in person, sometimes the pictures look worse, or better than the real thing.

Well this is our 20th anniversary. Maybe I can think up something. How much does that DDII weigh in grams anyhow? That is suppose to be the heaviest Rolex watch right?

Mike, I have no idea how much does it weigh, but it is definitely the heaviest rolex I have ever tried on my wrist. And honestly, I don't like the weight.

I think the DDII in platinum is probably the heaviest.

Although I choose my watches myself, and I choose them because I like them, if my wifes tells me she doesn't care for one, well, that kind of ruins it for me. I eventually end up moving it out. If you trust your wife's opinion on your watches, best to really consider her opinion on such a substantial purchase. Then again, perhaps she will like it when she she's it in person.

Wholley smokin' moley, me laddo! That's A LOTTA watch! Bew-tiffle. I have to admit, when I see something like that I'm tempted. But I have this formula: I recognize I have been fortunate in my life to be able to afford the occasional Rolex, but when I allocate funds for a 'present' for myself like a Rolex, I have to be able to first allocate TEN TIMES as much to charity. I'm sure pretty much all of us are in the same boat in that respect. Sure, I might have spent a few tens of thousands on Rolexes over the past 5 years, but have also put a similar number of hundreds of thousands into things like building hospitals, funding shelters for abused women, higher education for minorities, research for curing inherited disease, sponsoring a safer community, and the like. If you have the same philosophy, (and I'm sure you do), you must be putting some SERIOUS money into good causes! Good on you son, the world needs more like you!

Looks like a close call, but I'd say you got the best end of that deal... but wait, you bought the car & and the watch? Sounds more like a bribe to keep the wife & a happy home.

Unless you have the wrists of a football player, I would stay away from the DDII...

I was somewhat negative on the platinum dd myself until I saw one in person and tried it on.

Now I'm in awe of them. They have a feel like none other.
