My thoughts on the new TT GMT-MASTER II

First let me say that the watch is very beautiful. But!, the hype in my opinion has overblown it's desirability. My AD had gotten one in about 4 weeks ago, when I first approached him about a bottom line price, he said that 3 people were interested, and coming in that day to look at it, so no discount was being offered. I went back the next day and the watch was still there, went back a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and this past weekend, but the watch was still there. And yes! my friend with me, did note the serial number while we were looking at it. I have the feeling that this watch maybe a little over priced, and no one so far has been willing to pay the MSRP! I think that maybe it will take an airline pilot with a passion for the GMT's to move these watches.

It didn't really do anything for me. I love the solid center links, but they are unnecessary. The ceramic bezel does not look any better to me than the standard.

The super case is nice, as is the triplock crown. When I bought my stainless sub, the list price on a TT sub was 7100 dollars. I see no reason to have raised the list price to 8900 dollars.

well i had one for a week and loved it.. though it is pricey - even after securing a 20% discount overseas...

I flipped it to a friend - but am currently negotiating on a lightly used example.. i think it's a much more formal watch than my TT Blue Sub.

Airline Pilot

Well, I am an airline pilot and a big GMT Master fan,

I love mine, did not pay full price since I saved over 1800$ buing it from an AD in Tokyo, Japan.

I love the size weight and maxi dial....

I bought one...mainly due to the Ceramic Bezel with Gold engraved letter ... it looks beautiful. Not to mention the triplock crown and bigger case rivals that of a Black Sub expect GMT II anniv. provides a dual time functionality.

IMO the increased price could be due to solid gold links as well as the Ceramic dial.... check out the video on ceramic dial on Rolex's website.

Gotta admit, I like the 16710 best. Polished center links and the green are deal breakers for me. Very nice watch but not the tool it once was.

The only thing I do not like about the new GMT is the bezel rotations. I like 120 clicks, rather than 24. This gives the GMT the advantage of being able to record elapsed time.

Here is what i do not understand. If Rolex decided to change the number of clicks on the bezel, instead of 24, why not 96? that way at least you cold click off in 15 minute increments, which would allow accurate time differences when travelling to those 6 countries that are on 15 min or 30 min difference of GMT time (Nepal, Mayanmar, Afghanistan, Iran, India, etc..)

The new Anniv TT GMT.My opinion ....

Clasp ...excellent design, but the flat gold part on the clasp will be very prone to scratching and will be very noticeable because its a large flat area.
Solid links
Supercase
Ceramic bezel .. the numericals are too large and appears too yellow.Distracts from the dial.
Dial:Maxi + larger hands lets the dial look smaller. The 24 hour hand should have been left red,not green. The dial looks cluttered and confused.
Crown

If I had to buy one,I would go for the ss and not the TT.Just looks like a more balanced design. Now,is also not the time to buy ,because discounts will be difficult to obtain. Will want to buy at the regular discount I get from my AD,not at MSRP

Perhaps the current GMT II can be found at a great discount, since its being discontinued ??

I think the center solid links are one of the best, most necessary features for the watch. Once they go to the solid center links on the TT Sub, then I'll probably jump on it. I think that the hollow center links is somewhat cheap. Especially on the SS Sub.

I agree that TT GMT Anv is nice! Last weekend I bought another new DJ SS/WG with diamond MOP for my wife and have some thought about getting it too but my wife told me that yellow gold is out and the %8 discount didn't help neither. Decided to wait for the new SS GMT Anv. instead.

Come to think of it,concerning "ceramics" .... Is it a question of RADO leads and Rolex follows ??

My guess is that the GMT II was simply too pricy for the people who looked at it.

once your AD realises that there is no demand for that piece at MSRP, he would start considering to offer a discount.....

again it's subjective but i love mine....

Not sure that's the case. Just because something costs a lot of money is not a reason to buy it.

You can't think about the money with this watch. You do not NEED it, you have to WANT it. Folks WANT to be teachers, police, and military, they do it for thmselves, not because of the high pay, because there is no high pay. (I think flying is in that category now). And when you buy a Rolex you have to WANT it. Not many NEED it. So if you think about the cost, you don't want iot more than whatever else you can buy for that amount.

I am a little ticked at msyelf that I did not buy the Enigma instead, but it is still for same and maybe I will get that next. THEN I can get on the list for the Milgauss or other toys.
