Normal Bezel VS Ceramic Bezel

Hello forum!

Have been wondering how "strong" is the Omega Planet Ocean´s bezel..

Is it hard to scratch it? I am asking this question becouse it seems that there is a major hype right now called the CERAMICS (PO Liquid Metal), which they claim it is Scratch proof!

I am pretty active, so it kind of scares me when i hear that brands want to turn their bezels stronger, as it seems they use to scratch easily.


Please let me hear some comments from your experience.
Are the new ceramics a big deal, or you can stick with a normal one without complaining on scratches?

imo - the LM version is beautiful, but you probably wont see many owners use the watch for its intended use.... but the LM bezel insert is supposed to be much stringer than the aluminium version.

one of the advertanges with the aluminium version is that it can be replaced quite easily and cheaply imo.

it all depends on what you want and how you you want to pay for it. i have a 42mm PO and was once offered a LM PO, but i said thank you, but no thanks.

You called it correct. The "ceramic" is hype. In fact the Rolex ceramic is very expensive to replace and is prone to shattering in stead of scratching. I have no desire to own a ceramic bezel watch.

My Rolex Serti Sub is 12 years old and still looks new, so I see no need to correct a problem that doesn't exist.

All I know is that the current bezel on the PO scratches pretty easily.

When my puppy played with my watch, he slightly chewed on the bezel. It left faint scratches. It wasn't deep or anything but it will scratch by something sharp. The bezel is durable as any others used in other watches, IE Rolex Submariner bezel so I wouldn't worry about it boss!

The current PO is made of superb quality and has unmatchable value.

I was kind of worried with your 1º post, as i knew by your signature that you had a PO in the past.

i can confirm that the aluminium bezel insert can scratch quite easily, but it is also cheaper to replace.

imo - i'd much prefer to have the aluminium bezel insert combo rather than the polished bezel on the Daytonas.....

i wouldnt have a clue to be honest - havent had the need to get one "yet"...

FYI - the 16610 black aluminium bezel insert can be purchased from the ADs for £35... so i think the Omega PO aluminium bezel insert should be somewhere around that....

(im sure someone has the price for an insert)

So far for me, no scratches on the bezel, but instead mostly on the clasp from desk diving.

The PO was the most accurate watch I have ever owned. The watch lost about 1-2 seconds every thirty days. That is like crazy accuracy. Good luck!

same here... just found out i have this scratch on the clasp the other day.

Rolex sell the insert to the bezel which is nice. Omega will want to sell you the whole bezel that runs about $200 but aluminum bezels are tough - just not scratch resistant. I have seen after market inserts for Omega that run about $25.

Thanks guys. I wore my Serti Sub alot the first 7 years. Now I rotate it to less mundane activities. My PO gets more every day use. The first 7 years I wore my Sub just about everywhere including, to out door picnics, swimming, even mowing the lawn sometimes. It's as tough as any Sub and I think how a owner takes care of ther watch is the biggest wear factor. My Sub just turned 12 yrs old and is still as accurate as it was new.

Myself and several others I know with the PO all have very scuffed up clasps -
I sold one last year - and couldn't believe how many people emailed that they wanted one with a "mint" condition clasp - ain't going to happen

yeah - true that.

ist not just the PO, any watch with a massive clasp will get scratched... especially the one with polished bits

I'm sure they can. If it is a light/fine scratch... Then a red scortch bright pad will do the job also

Unfortunately, I do not think that is the case at all. I need a bezel insert for my Bond Chronodiver 300 Seamaster, and I have been told repeatedly that my only option is to buy A WHOLE NEW BEZEL, which is several hundred dollars.

If you have connections to the contrary, please let me know. I would love to be wrong.
