Rolex Datejust not working
Well, I've had this thing for more than 6 years now and frankly I never knew you had to have it serviced. I bought it second hand and never had a problem till today. I wear it when my ensemble demands some "bling" but I have it sitting in a winder most of the time.
Today, I put it on and while driving, I noticed the second hand wasn't moving. I tried shaking it up which usually works on this auto watch. the second hand started moving but in counterclockwise! I will try and contact the local dealer here but I was wondering if there is anything else I can do in the meantime. |

Counter-clockwise, huh?
Damn, if this was a country song your dog would be alive, the bank would give back your pick-up and your wife would come back to you! Sorry, I couldn't resist... |

If you bought it used and you've had it for six years, it will need a service. I think that will cost you about $550, plus parts, etc.
It'd be worth it, though, in my opinion. |

I had the mainspring replaced a couple years ago on my 1601. These things happen.

The mainspring is one of the expendables replaced in a service. The RSC will charge you $550 for a standard service.

There are a number of independents that are great. I have heard great things about Rik E. Dietel for example http://www.timecareinc.com/index.html who normally charges around $350 plus parts. If I didn***8217;t love my Rolex AD (Ben Bridge) watchmaker so much, I would try Rik. Had lunch with my watchmaker today. I learn something new every time we get together to increase my WIS IQ. Your watch will look and run like the day it came from Rolex. Actually better, as the quality control is tighter with a competent watchmaker than the production lines at Rolex turning out 3,500 watches a day. With a fresh service you are good to go for another eight years.

I just dropped it off at our local dealer and I will get an estimate in a few days bring that its the holiday weekend. Also heard they actually send it out, maybe New York or Dallas?
This is first and only Rolex which I got as a present to myself when I got a big check out of my business back then. Anyway, thanks for the advice guys! |

Tell the dealer NOT to send it to New York. I realize you are new to the forums (welcome). If you were not a newbie you would have read numerous posts as to the bad service from New York.

All is well now, my watch looks brand new! I asked them where they sent it and they said Texas. Guess it went to Dallas.
