Thinking about flipping my Rolex Sea Dweller for a Panerai.
There are five good shops in my city that consistently have a good selection of second hand PAMs on sale. So basically I'm looking for a nice used manual or automatic sandwich dial PAM under $5,000 USD. My question is what models are most recommended within this range. Other than a strong preference for the sandwich dial, I have not settled on a style yet, so all recommendations are welcome. Thanks in advance. |

Go for a 111.
Its a manual wind luminor. If you get the later series, it has sandwich dial as well. |

I second the 111 for sandwich dial. However, I think the best Panerai entry point is the 000 (though you don't have sandwich or seconds subdial) or 005. Got to love the logo! Good luck!

I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago . . .
Based on my reading (mainly on this forum), the most popular entry-level models are the 000, 005, 111, 112. I went with the 111. Great watch! Love the manual wind and the display back, as well as the classic OP look. |

I am looking to get back into the Panerai fold. My last was a PAM 104, which I sold about 2 years ago. I am really turned onto the 312, but it looks super thick. The combination of the 1950 case, sandwich dial and auto movement is killer. I have relatively thin wrists (6 3/4", more round than flat on the top). I can usually pull off larger watches as long as they are not too thick. How does the 312 wear on the wrist (1950 cases)? I even thought about getting another PAM 48. Maybe I need to be talked out of a 40mm PAM.

Quick answer.
Under 5k 111,112 - SS Lum Man 176,177 - Ti Lum Man 183,210 - SS Rad Man Just slight over 5k 312 - SS Lum 1950 Inhouse Auto Long answer. (not written, but on your part...) Take you time and look around. I don't get when people ask what watch should I buy? I don't know, one you like....one you are passionate about...one you try on and just have to have?

[QUOTE=mfer;2115360]Quick answer.
Under 5k 111,112 - SS Lum Man 176,177 - Ti Lum Man 183,210 - SS Rad Man QUOTE] You can't go wrong with any of the above, they all rock. Unlike other brands, I love every Panerai model made, so all of the above are amazing IMHO. You need to decide between a Radiomir or a Luminor, two completly different watches, but they are both amazing on the wrist.

I know its over 5k but the Pam 359 is really nice... Maybe you can find a mint one around 5k if you look hard.

I used to have a 111 but sold it due to 1. manual wind- got tired of the watch stopping mid-day if I forgot to wind it; 2). lack of a deployment clasp - it is such an amazing feature and 3. the lack of a date function- you would be amazed how much you will miss it. I bought a new 104 last year and love it, especially with the brown croc strap- I would recommend the 104 any day

You'll know when you put it on. Sometimes price plays little part in the ultimate decision, like it or not...

Think of a sandwich were you slap two slices of bread over each other. Same as sandwich dials of PAMS, instead of painted numbers or indices, they use two layers slapping one over the other with the lume underneath. Sorry about the analogy ![]()
