PAM 111/177 Decision

I used to own a PAM 111 and am interested in reacquiring one soon. Recently, as I was browsing the Sales Forum I stumbled across a PAM 177 that I wasn't familiar with. After doing a little research, it appears to be the same watch with the exception of the Steel vs. Titanium case.

What are the other differences I should be aware of? Which one is generally preferred? Which one holds its value better?

My instinct would tell me that the 177 is lighter, but how does the Ti wear compared to the steel? Is it more durable or harder to maintain (easier to scratch and harder to re-brush)? How many grams lighter is the 177?

Any insight you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

High level.

Ti is lighter, has a different sheen and color.

It does scratch easier.

It costs more to manufacture.

They hold their value pretty consistently.

Do you have an AD near you? There is a good chance they'll have a Ti model there. Might not even be a Panerai. Breitling has a few for example.

Yepp, the Ti model is much lighter, which I actually prefer on such a large watch, others want to feel the "heft of steel". Sure, it will scratch, but who cares really, it is a tool watch.

My only complaint on this basic series - for that type of money I'd like an automatic movement...

Ti is harder to scratch and much lighter. However, it is also hard to get rid of scratch once you get it. I hope this helps.

Another quick question...what is the MSRP difference between the two models?

this sounds all too familiar....

I walked into my AD convinced I wanted a 111. They didn't have one but they did have the 177. Love at first sight for me. LOVE that color! True it's lighter than SS but that can be a good thing given the size of this piece. You need to try one to know .. to each his own!

You're right though. Same watch as the 111 but Ti. Something else you may want to consider though is that the 177 comes with the gorgeous OEM Croc strap while the 111 is calf.

As for scratching ... I have a SS Sub date that I feel scratches just as easily.
In any case, light scratches are easily removed with an pen eraser ... really. I was amazed!

In any case, as I said to each his own and I would suggest trying before buying (not always possible, I know)

cheers!

I'll only wear SS when you compare those two. That's just me though....

I really recommend finding a Ti watch and looking at it. You'll know if you love or hate it right away. I'm a SS guy btw.

My first was a 177G - Still own it. I think it is the watch that scratches the least. Well except for the 292. But, the Ti holds up incredibly well in my opinion. I have never regretted the Ti decision.
