Is this model correct?
Dear All,
I recently joined the Rolex Forum and found a lot of interesting discussions, wise recommendations and learned a lot. First of all, thanks to all the members of the forum who contribute and share with us their experience. I'm currently looking for a Rolex 6204. Can anyone tell me if this model on Ebay is correct? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT I can tell that the bezel insert is not correct. The hands look good, but do not correspond to the year of the model. The seller says that the dial is probably redone. Many thanks for your help. Regards, Greg |

It looks as if the dial plots have a funny color to it, and the bezel is incorrect, and the movement is dirty. Also as you can see on the hand, some of the material has fallen off.

+ it's been polished to hell, look where the lug holes are in respect to the edge of the lugs, and the bezel is worn down something terrible.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM - Greg
The seller has sold some very nice pieces in the past. Here are some good pics for comparison: http://forums.watchnet.com/index.php...o=425542&rid=0 |

The best, and only way, in my opinion, to buy a high dollar vintage Rolex is in person, and then after it is fully examined by someone that knows what to look for regarding genuine vs aftermarket/fake parts, condition and function. The watch here is very valuable if all is correct as it should be, and the watch is in decent condition. As noted by others, it is not in great condition.
Be careful buying these high dollar, vintage Rolexes, sight unseen, unless you are sleeping with the seller!!!!!!!!!!!

It is very interesting that the comparisons are in the same range 988xxx.
The listing in question is missing "submariner" on the dial and "swiss". The caseback on the Ebay listing is missing "Montres Rolex SA" and it appears the rotor was rubbing against it. The case stampings, serial and model number, do not line up correctly either. |

It is also very interesting to see the different variation on the doubleredseadweller.com:

Hi guys, I registered here a few months ago, and I am (obviously) mostly a lurker - I enjoy reading all this debate and I admit I do like to have a snigger at some of the rubbish people try to sell on eBay. I have an interest in intellectual property issues.
I just have to ask a question about this watch though - it may be a bit of a mess, but for $100 isn't it worth something for a newbie collector on a limited budget? Or was there a reserve that isn't showing now the listing has ended? Sorry about the dumb question! Cheers Shaz (Australia) |

There are many issues with this watch, mostly pointed out above. But imho I do not agree this is a watch for "a newbie on a limited budget". A genuine 6204 would be worth in excess of $25/$30k. I do not believe buying this one in questionable condition and authenticity would bring them much enjoyment. Just my opinion..... |
