Opinions Please
http://www.watchtrader.com.au/store/...13-black-dial/
This watch is from a store in Melbourne, Australia. I have never dealt with them before. Watch comes with full papers. When I spoke with them they said the watch was a 2006. Keeping in mind that the price is in Australian dollars and everything costs more here. Can someone give me an estimate of what this kind of watch would cost in the USA (I know that there are a lot of variables)? While I know that it will cost more here because we are travelling overseas we will get our tax back etc. Thank you so much for any input. This forum has been so helpful on my journey to find the right watch for my hubby. |

Being a 2006 model it may not yet have been serviced and is about due for one. So you may want to factor in around A$700-A$1000 to have it serviced at Rolex Melbourne/Sydney. Around half that at an independent watchmaker and since you would already have the original Rolex papers no real need to have Rolex service the watch. If it has not been serviced you may be able to use that fact to haggle the price down a little. Let us know how you go. You may find one in the US around the same or a little cheaper but |

Great idea to haggle using the need for a service. Thank you! I have been trying to learn as much as I can about rolex as I want to buy one for my husband. He has many nice watches, like tag etc. but has never splurged on a rolex for himself. We are actually going to California to celebrate his birthday so I have looking at buying in the USA also but it seems fraught with danger for a novice. I am keeping my options open. I know he likes several rolex models so that makes it easier to get a good deal. I thought that this one seemed good value. It was originally purchased in Sydney.

Apparently the watch has solid end link. Is this just the design, as in an older watch is not SEL? Also it is no pinhole cases. I keep reading about pinholes but I am lost. Can someone please explain this to me. It also has a strip clasp. Sorry to be such a novice.
Given the already discounted price. What would you try and haggle it down too? |

Becdoll, without getting all technical and posting photos the SEL's and no pin holes (in the case where the band attaches to the watch) were modifications Rolex made between the earlier model and this one. The model you're looking at has since been modified again to the current model but this model is nicer to many people as the new shape is far more "blocky". Each to their own though!.
As far as this watch being a decent deal in Australia at that price, it is!. I looked long and hard at Rolex prices there a few months back before buying from the States, but if I was looking for a pre-loved 16613 right now in Oz, this one would be pretty hard to pass up. More so with the AUD at the level it is. The add starts off by saying MAKE US AN OFFER and that's what I'd be doing!. Contact them and try something like $5500 on for size telling them if your offer is accepted you're buying today. The worst that can happen is they come back with a counter offer or say no!. Good luck whichever way you chose to go!. |

Why do some of the gold and SS watches have gold on the clasp (like in my original link) and others do not like this one;
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....#ht_8353wt_907 Did it change over time? |

Yes they did change over time, the 2 watches you've put links to in this thread are different models and the current model has a different clasp to both of these again!.
Also, in the ebay photos you will be able to see pin holes in the case of that model that you were wondering about earlier. |
