Rolex 1675 PCG and my Lucky Day
as i went to my 17th and finally show of the year. i never excepted
it to be probably my best day of the year. and with some luck it was! my super score this year, buying a red sub at a pawn shop off a "green sheet" at a level 3 price. that was great, but this one is better! last year at the nawcc show in del-mar ca. 11/19-21/2009. (BTW, an excellent show. thanks to the folks at chapter 59 that make it happen) i bought in the parking lot (pre-show) a 1675 pcg gilt exclaimation pt dial with a 7206 expandable oyster date stamped 3 62 on 11/19/2009. i asked where the watch came from and he told me a story it was bought from the original owners wrist and sold to the man he bought it from. > o.k.< he said if there anything else he would get it. "maybe papers". at which point i said to myself, (hmmm wishful thinking. not necessary. he already made the sale. seems like i've heard this story before??? yes!) i thanked him and walked away. (note i didn't believe the paper story and never offered my card. hmmmm?) as with every watch i keep, i went out to find the correct garage (box) to keep it in. and again, at a pawn shop my garage was found in a few months. fast forward, nawcc show del-mar ca. 11/18/2010 table holders set-up. (1 yr to the date). i was done buying and started setting up my table and someone taps me on the shoulder. the gentleman say's "hello remember me?">> i say "sure i bought the gmt from you". he say's " i didn't have your number and didn't know how to get ahold of you. i have something for you, they have been setting on my dresser for a few months, and i was hoping you where coming this year" and to MY SURPRISE! he is showing me some papers!! ( you got to be joking, holy $#!^. the rolex gods have blessed me on this ONE!) he hands them to me. i say with great enthusiasm, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! fast forward again. the first thing i do when i get home sunday morning, not pet the dog, not kiss the wife or hug the kids. but to grab a spring bar pin and find the watch and check the numbers! BING! it's a match! the watch was purchased at the AFEX at Wheelus Air Base Libya, in 12/18/62 by a 1/LT. (never heard of the base, but after reading. it has a interesting history.) |

That GMT was sold a couple of months after I was born.
It seems to be in better shape than me.

What a great story! There was something similar to this posted in the general forums about a guy who I think sold his watch without the papers and then somehow found that guy that bought the watch and mailed him the paperwork, or something along those lines! These stories always pull at the ole heart strings! It's so nice to hear stuff like this in this day and age, definitely a rarity! You are beyond lucky as many others have already said! Enjoy your now complete vintage!!!

Wow Wow Wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic story, this is what makes the vintage watch chase so intoxicating, there is always one out there waiting to be found, and then to get the papers thrown in at a later date is just awsome. I hope you greased that gents palm with a few gold coins, stay lucky
