I feel that I'm ready Dan. It's been tooooooo long time that I've smoked.
I do toke on the cigers now and then, but I do inhale and it does taste like crap. Not that I've taste crap before Doesn't taste like a proper cigarette.
Besides, since I migrated to Australia some 24 years ago and have been smoking the same brand since, some of TRF members (no names mentioned) do give me crap on the brand I smoke. They call me a a red neck smoker, when it's obvious I'm a Peter Jackson smoker

Jokes aside, I'm seriously consider quitting. For myself, Family and my friends.

I used to manage an upscale Cigar and Fine Pen store. I used to easily smoke 3 to 4 a day. I ended up getting married and shortly after that, my wifes father was diagnosed with lung cancer (he used to smoke a pack a day). After seeing what he went through pain wise, I vowed to never smoke again and that was over 10 years ago.

Thnx

Never smoked and never will. My father smoked 1-2 packs a day when we were growing up and the second-hand smoke gave me headaches. He quit when I was around 15-16 years old and it was the best thing for him, and for our family.

Do your own due diligence, but after smoking 1-2 packs a day for many years I haven't had a cigarette since switching to e-cigs. That was more than a year ago and the burning lung sensation in the mornings, coughing up bullets, and stinking clothes are all a thing of the past. The real bonus is you can "vape" them anywhere, discretely if necessary (like on planes or in a restaurant) but you're still getting nicotine while exhaling an odourless vapour that looks like smoke so your mind is happy. The "throat hit" that we smokers love so much is just the same, but you can slowly decrease the strength of the nicotine juice you use all the way down to zero.

Again, search the subject and make your own decisions, there's forums with all the pros and cons you need to know. But for me, e-cigs are brilliant. I can breathe properly again, enjoy the taste of good food/wine again, love the flavour combinations that're available, and cannot stand the smell or taste of cigarettes now.

I agree that morbid obesity is a terrible thing. The difference is that we need to eat and a persons relationship with food can be complicated.
There is never a good reason to pick up a cigarette, most people do it initially to be cool. Smoking will kill you and it has the potential to kill the people around you.

Quitting was the best thing I have ever done for myself, I only wish I had been able to do it sooner.

Well in the minority hear, I smoke a pack a day give or take...problem is I do enjoy it. At $7 per pack here in WI it is getting silly expensive though... Think about quitting? Yeah but it is my only vice... not overweight, dont drink... you get the picture. You have to have some fun right?

I first tried cigarettes when I was around 9 or 10.

I didn't really take them up until 1967 at age 17, when I was in boot camp at MCRD, San Diego.

When I broke my leg and was assigned to Casual Company, which is anything but casual, I took up smoking to get a few extra minutes of peace a day while the smoking lamp was lit, when the Drill Instructors couldn't harass and torture me.

Negative reinforcement was big in the Marine Corps in those days.

Sadly, I kept up the smoking for another 30 years until I decided that I could no longer tolerate the ill effects of smoking and I quit for the last time in 1996.

Man, am I ever glad that I did.

There is nothing better any human being can do for himself than to quit smoking. It is a detestable habit that causes illness and death in not only those who smoke, but those who must be around them.

I smoked from about 15 to 20 years old. About 5 years. I got up to about 2-3 packs of camels per day. I quit cold turkey. In college I got a cold or flu and was so sick that I fell asleep for about 24 hours, and was extremely tired for about 3 days. I coughed like I had bronchitis, and had some light blood in my phlegm. I was so sick I didn't want a cigarette. By the time I felt ok I realized the hardest part of quitting was already over, I slept through it. The rest was avoiding coffee and alcohol and things I associated with smoking. Now I get disgusted by the smell of cigarettes, getting a headache in bars, etc.

All my friends at the time back at home had all vowed to quit weeks back, so I took the opportunity to quit. They all started smoking again before I made it back home to visit them. I am now 31 and am pretty lucky, or just strong minded.

If you smoke a pack a day, in few years time you can get a nice Sub if you have saved.
