Tudor black face Oysterdate (or princess oyster)?
Hi there,
I've been reading from behind the registration lines for a while and there is some amazing and helpful information on here, so thank you! But i'm looking to buy my first vintage tudor watch, and i'm caught between a few styles. I've been reading up a lot and doing some (basic) research via these forums / historical websites / ebay etc and i'm armed with a little info which makes me a little more confident when going into antique shops etc. However, today i saw a small (looked ladies sized) 50s steel bracelet Tudor watch, that i would say looks like an Oysterdate but without the date mark, but it had a BLACK DIAL. Now i've been looking a LOT online for one to compare and check it out if it's legitimate etc... but i can only find black faced subs and the like. THe woman in the shop told me it was a military watch... and again the military tudors i can find are more Sub looking. This looked like an oyster watch, small like a ladies, it had the old tudor rose on (without a shield around the edges so i guess that places it c 50s). It had the stainless steel bracelet with a ROLEX crown on the bracelet and a rolex crown on the winder... i did not look inside the watch or look at the back. The woman was a bit intimidating, and the few questions i asked were as far as i felt confident to go. If anyone could have any historical info on what this could be, and if black face oyster military watches did indeed exist that would be brilliant. It wasn't that much money, so maybe she doesn't realise what she's got on her hands. Apologies if these are really naive questions, but any suggestions / info would be much appreciated. Thaks! |

Not much to go on here and most businesses lack the specific knowledge on each brand much less each reference. I'd have to see a pic to offer comment.
Keep searching for a similar pic online and we might be able to shed more light. dP

Thanks Dan, yes i've been looking online everywhere and can't find it. I think the closest thing would be something like this attached, (with the tudor rose - not inside a shield) and as mentioned has a black face. It didn't say Oyster Prince/Princess in it though. The bracelet had the same kind of links as this one i just found on a google search for tudor oyster.
