Do people really cross shop Rolex and seiko?
Not only Seiko, but Casio as well!
I may add a PAM to my collection in 2011 if that helps.

Probably not this:

Look, you may not realize this but there are a surprising number of people who want a Rolex but don't want to wear one because of the associated stigma. What's that stigma? Owners having the attitude that you are displaying. I'm probably not going to get a Grand Seiko anytime soon, but I'd never portray myself as someone so wrapped up in a brand that I'd seemingly proudly proclaim that I won't even consider anything else that that very well could be a fantastic watch from a storied brand. That being said, I think many Rolex's are beautiful, and one will probably be my next purchase.

Let's all just agree to be civil, and maybe keep an open mind.

Perhaps you need to read my full posts. The only attitude is the one you just displayed. For me--no Seiko--not a chance--does that mean it is not a good watch or someone who has one should be put down--No! Again--go back and read my posts as clearly you don't know me. As for Stigmas--nobody has ever even noticed a Rolex on my wirst--if anyone did-it would be another WIS.

More importantly, why not a Seiko? Why "not a chance"?

No big deal--to each his own. Buy what you want to buy and wear what you want to wear -who cares what anyone else thinks!! But one thing is don't disrespect other's choices as they worked hard for their watches too! Let's all show some class around here!!! It is what makes TRF the best forum on the planet!!
Badandy--Here you go--maybe this will help you--don't take 1 line out of context.

Believe me, I know this is a Rolex forum. It's why I joined it. I have no problem if someone likes Rolex more, that's cool. I probably feel the same way, and I of course knew that Rolex would win in terms of favorite brands here. But saying you'd never try one on? That there's not a chance?

Why?

Why not a Jaeger or a Panerai or a Cartier?? My taste is my taste--subjective to my likes and dislikes. As I was stating-this is a Rolex Forum--what would one expect the responses to be other than Rolex. If it were a Seiko forum--one would expect the opposite. No interest in Seiko for me-not my thing--and if it were-I would be in SRF not TRF!! If you want to make friends around here I suggest a different approach than taking one line out of context and trying to twist the meaning. Just a suggestion if you feel like sticking around. I also don't need to justify to you why I would not want to wear a Seiko--nor anyone else for that matter.

Surely you'd be OK with trying on a Jaeger or Cartier, right? Why not Seiko? There has to be a reason, there always is. It could be as simple as "my grandpa brought me up hating Seiko", that's still a reason. Thus far, you've just scoffed at the entire brand without a reason. You said your taste is subjective. What is your taste telling you about these Grand Seiko's? I'm legitimately interested.

Take it out of context? You've confirmed it's what you meant and you've repeated it. I've made plenty of friends so far, most people here have been extremely helpful and I'm very appreciative of that.

I suggest when you throw out assertions and polarizing ideas you would be so kind as to explain yourself, that's all. That's what forums are about.

I've got nothing against you either, I'm just interested in why. Don't quite know why you're getting riled up at me.

Time for me to move on--no point in wasting my time with you as I am sure you will be banned in a short amount of time with your attitude. Don't misquote me again or take a single line out of context.

I'm very confused why you're irritated and are being so uncivil to me. Perhaps there was some sort of misunderstanding? Why will I be banned? I hope not, I've learned a lot here so far.

Seiko Monsters are some of the ultimate beater watches with fanatical followings - I have one ,too. But they go for only $150-200 new , so why bother to fix it vs buying a new one if it " breaks " ?

I just bought one on an eBay auction for only $154 shipped, hasn't arrived yet. I bought the Orange face, black is too generic IMO

Have had a couple of Seikos over the years, but no more. Swore off Seikos, now I am Rolex man (and maybe a PP for good measure).
