To me the ipad looks pretty interesting - and I like other Apple products - but I'm not sure about using a touchscreen for a serious computer i.e. one where I'm doing a lot of writing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.

I can see using the ipad for light email, web surfing etc.

Any thoughts from ipad users?

Help me out with something here guys, as to what the Ipad acomplishes that my Iphone and Laptop don't. Trust me, I'm a techno Geek's Geek, and always have to have the latest and greatest. I seriously looked at the Ipad, but I don't see what it would do for me?

I travel quite a bit, and for directions, or a quick-search for a resturant, or texting, even (light) e-mailing, I use my I phone. Granted, it's a small screen, but clipped to my belt or briefcase it can't be beat for convenience.

I have the strongest (chip strength) Vaio Sony makes, because I do a lot of high-resource requiring programming. Of course the Ipad can't run any of those programs (or I think even word or PPT or any of those?) so when it's necessary I pull out the laptop.

I am not anti-Ipad at all! And for those of you that use them and love em more power to you, I'm just trying to see exactly what nitch it fills

Low profile is an iPad feature that is being used by the TV anchors at KFMB News 8, San Diego. Have a look Paul, they are using them "on air," rather than those "copy sheets" normally used...

Paul, I can see why iPad is useful to most people. I too was looking at getting one but have decided to wait till 2nd gen.
As much as I love my iPhone, it can be too small at times, especially at home or during a flight, at waiting lounge etc. It gives the user of yuck access without having to turn on and off a laptop or netbook.
Granted it can not perform serious work but that's why you have a proper PC/MacBook also.
Gotta go, nurse just called.

The ipad is a first generation device that has quickly caught on. I've never known a first generation product to be released with all the possible features. What if it was a flop and Apple had invested tons of R&D dollars on all the bells and whistles? Like it or not, they are running a business and a very good one at that.
I use my ipad for business frequently creating/giving presentations, reviewing financial documents, product demonstrations, etc. I was on Maui this last week, downloaded two movies to my ipad to watch on the plane, when the movie was over I switched to the ipad function and started listening to music while reading with the ibooks app.
Every morning while sipping coffee on the lanai I would check my emails. I approved closing documents for a new company, found contractors to renovate my kitchen, edited a power point presentation, etc.

Hmmm, do you know anyone who fits that description, Paul? I don't...
