Service without restoration?

What watchmaker would you recommend for having a watch just serviced and not polished or repaired? I saw that Ridley gets high marks on this forum, but it looks like he specializes in restoration. I don't need the outside prettied up. The watch functions well, but it's probably time for a service.

I'm sure RSC charges the same price even if I tell them I don't need the full service.

Try look for a local rolex certify watchmaker.

For your reference, I have a friend which is a certify rolex watchmaker and also use by the local AD did all four of my rolex for ~$140 each, clean, oil plus new o-ring and pressure test, also comes with 1 year warranty.

It's true that Rolex charges the same price if you choose to not have the case refinished. But, they also replace many of the worn parts inside, as well as "expendibles", such as the Main wheels, pallet and stones, gaskets and O-rings, etc. They don't just clean it and oil it, which is usually what you get at the bargain price shops...

I do not know if you have "original papers" but if you service through the RSC, you will receive service papers that looks just as good to some collectors.

Bob Ridley does specialize in case and general Rolex restoration. However, he is VERY interested in personal care of his customers and will follow your instructions explicitly. I feel quite certain that he would service your watch without any case restoration whatsoever.

No.......You are definitely right. However, you do get what you pay for. Also, I was just quoted $515 from Bob for a complete service with an new crystal included.........so he is a little cheaper than RSC

I assume ridley is a little cheaper than rolex. I'm not trying to get off super cheap, but I don't like paying for services I don't need. I have a saying; "I don't mind spending money, I don't like wasting money." I understand that it is quite a skill that requires time and expensive equipment. I don't mind paying a fair price for a service. In fact, I quite enjoy the free market. I admire rolex for their commitment to excellence, just not sure I need a full restoration, and rolex doesn't offer different levels of service.

Doing a service with Bob is quite an experience. If you have a vintage and you are not the original owner, Bob can tell you if the watch has had the proper service and what needs to be "done." Also telling you what can wait five or so years for replacement until the next service. Personal service ALL THE WAY!

If the watchg is functioning well then don't have it serviced.
