Tiffany Datejust ??
Ok, so I was looking at a pre-owned midsize Rolex with the Tiffany dial on ebay today and it has the box, but it's not a Tiffany box, it's a Rolex box. Is it a pretty good assumption that it's not the original box? Here's a link the auction. Anyone have any thoughts?

1. The box is an add-on, even though period correct, because buyers seem to want boxes and papers and sellers can get more money for them. 2. The watch is not really a Tiffany sold watch.. Unfortunately, unless you have the original invoice, there is no way to know it the dial was refinished to add the Tiffany. This one looks very good and I would guess that it is a Tiffany watch, but nobody can verify that.. Mid-size watches are not readily sought after and so I think that it may be overpriced unless you are fond of the Tiffany dial.. However, any price that a buyer is willing to pay a seller becomes the current value.

Ok, so if I wanted to buy a pre-owned, Tiffany midsize datejust with a two tone band with all the original boxes and papers, do you think I could get a decent one in the 2,000-2,500 range? If I gave up on the Tiffany, would I get a better Rolex in that price range? I don't need or want anything super fancy. Thank you. This is an awesome forum.

I think that you can easily find a good condition Mid-size in your price range.. If you are set on a vintage piece, then you should look for the very best example for the price you are willing to pay... If you choose to pay extra for a box and paper, it is a personal choice. You can't wear the box ...

Hi. I'm sorry to keep bugging you buy can I ask one more question? How would you define "vintage" in the Rolex world? Is that anything preowned or a certain age? I think I'd like to go as new as possible in my price range.

It used to be considered ~25 years for a wristwatch.. But then early collectors refused to accept the "newfangled" sapphire crystal models. That resulted in that group deciding that it must be "acrylic", or it's not vintage.. So the true answer is still vague and sapphire has been around for more than 30 years so such a distinction has to change - even for those who still insist that it must be plastic I fall into the group that feels the definition must be fluid. We have 16760's, 16800's, Cream Exp II's, 16700's, etc.,... all sapphire, and all "vintage"... for if they aren't, then what are they /??
