Greetings from DC and a quick story...
Hi everyone. Just joined yesterday after a google search to figure out why my GMT II 16710 gains about 20 sec/day.
I received the watch as a gift from my lovely wife in 2006 when I retired from the Navy. A rolex had been on my "bucket list" as a "someday" item, so I was pretty blown away when I saw the box. WOW, what a great gift! Around 2008, I noticed that the watch was gaining time, so I decided to fire it off to Rolex, NY for a look see. I went through the registered mail and insurance drill and sent it on its way. A week later, I decided to call Rolex to confirm receipt and was very surprised to hear that they hadn't received it. Off to the post office for a "what's up?" discussion and they tell me that they had lost an entire bag of registered mail and that they were investigating. Weeks go by and they come up with nothing. The postmaster finally tells me to file the insurance claim. Arrrrgh! So, I collect all the forms and start the process of documenting my claim. I go back to the AD where the watch was purchased and discover that I under insured to the tune of about $750. Ouch! It's now been about 2 months. I roll back into work after a week long business trip to find a message on my machine from the postmaster. "We found the mail, and your package, you can come get it". At this point I just want it back and I don't even care if it runs fast! Off I go to the post office and he tells me " I called on Monday and since I didn't hear back, I just sent it". WHAT!!! By now I had added Rolex NY to my speed dial so I made the call... "Yes sir, we have it". Whew! I got it back a few weeks later and it looked and ran great. Rolex did a great job and and didn't charge me even though tyhe watch was a few months out of warranty. |

Jeez, what a story!
First of all - lovely gesture from your wife! She's a keeper!!! :-) Secondly, what a circus! I'm glad you got your original watch back. I never send anything with registered mail anymore, last time I did it took 10 days between NYC and DC, so the best way is USPS Express Overnight, even if they only insure up to $5,000. Now enjoy that watch and your Navy retirement. Thank you for your service! Cheers, Patrick |
