Daytona!!! Limited quantity is produced. If you are lucky to be able to get one at MSRP, you can wear it for a few years and sell it for full price. Now in 30 years or so, you know it is going to be worth more.

Think it might be hard for it to become a vintage grail in years to come, most of them are visibly identifiable as something special, the M series, its on the inside, so unless you walk up to people and wiggle your little GMT-hand at them, its going to be a bit tricky for anyone to appreciate it.

No chance at all. The Daytona is definitely not a rare watch - if anything, it's one of the most popular sports models. In a typical year, we sell only one or two less than steel GMTs or Subs. We sell far more Daytonas than Explorers, Explorer IIs, Yachtmasters, Deepseas and Milgausses. If anything, the current Daytona is probably the least likely watch to be collectible in the future. The only reason why the original Daytona is so valuable now is because it didn't sell, it was chronically unpopular

I agree. I think the 40mm sea-dweller is going to be a thing of the past. There are a lot of them out there, the demand isnt very high - but with all the "super casing" and ceramic bezeling going on, people will miss the old smaller tank.

I think a lot of people dont realize the 16600 is one of the only watches with a deep sea depth rating in a 40mm package. It makes it unique for that reason. All other watches with crazy depth ratings are typically 42mm and up.

I completely disagree about the YMII's... Reason being, they will inevitably come out in a TT version, then SS. Now, depending on the production numbers on the steel ones - who knows, maybe they will be a 'grail' eventually.

But in my opinion, it is the 'sleepers' that will be a highly sought-after vintage collectibles. Primarily the white Milgauss (as the GV is a given future grail - prices have come up significantly on them already), I think.

I can see your point, they have put a lot of work into making the YM 2 movement and haven't sold many, so just bring out the TT and SS to to able to get the watch out and about, but i have a gut feeling they will leave well alone.
I think mothballing the Milgauss black and white then selling as a pair in the future would be worthwhile. I'm wearing mine, so that's not an option for me.

Edit added,
Has anyone heard of a watch being mothballed and displayed in a glass case. Never worn. For the purpose of selling in the future. It could be easily done nowadays on the internet.

I too think that Rolex won't be bringing the YM II into non-18ct variants. They've certainly not followed the development pattern they usually do with sports watches: introduce the 18ct first, then TT the next year, before unveiling the steel model. I think Rolex see the cal. 4160 as their tourbillon, the one movement that really shows off their prowess - it's not the done thing to put a flagship movement into a non-precious metal case. I think they want it to be truly exclusive.

Besides, I'm sure it needs their top watchmakers to service (servicing prices are significantly higher on the YM II than other Rolex models) - if they made it more accessible by having it in steel and TT, it could cause servicing issues. This point is pure speculation, but I would suspect there is a practical aspect behind it as well

Rolex needed to go beyond and build the mechanical memory on the YM 2. I think they will leave this forever as the ultimate in that area in the YG & WG. I can see them adding and innovating more movement technology to other models therefore creating more demand.

The other somewhat complicated watch in the line-up is the DD, and its still 18k/PT, not sure what a SS version would even look like, they'd have to "downgrade" its dial and bezel from the WG if they made one like they do the Daytona, and that's probably not practical.
