1st time in Tokyo need help where to stay & see?

Hi everyone,

I'm taking my 14 years old son to Tokyo, Japan this the Spring break next month taking the advantage of Continental Winter get away sale! So, I'll be travel on a budget ! This is our first time there and we need help find a safe and good place to stay.

Here is our travel schedule:

Leave CLE on Friday March 25 and arrive Narita airport on Sat. March 26, around 3:00pm

Go home on Friday April 1st.

We want to see:

- the fish market
- the funky town where the youths dressed up like "haloween"
- electronics town
- See the Cherries blossom
- see Sumo wresting (cheap match !)
- Some famous garden?
- Mount Fuji
- Night-live one night
- what else?

prefered if the hotel has a free shuttle bus to/from the Narita airport , but not a must.

Thank you so much TRF,

Astroboy

We stayed at Keio Plaza in Shinjuku district last time. Very nice hotel and within walking distance to Shinjuku train station and the underground.
They got direct bus connection to Narita and Heneda. Bus connection to/from airport is not free. I think around 1700 yen per trip.
You do NOT want to carry your luggage through the public transport system there to airport. Most stations have no lifts or escalators so not really suitable for moving luggage.

It's really a fun place to explore. I don't speak Japanese but do read Chinese. So, a lot of the words are similar so can guess their meaning. Make sure you got a compass, and able to do google map. Compass is a must as you will need to get orientated when you're under cover/underground. I used Google map to navigate around and it's smooth :)

Visit Ginza, take the Shinkanzen (bullet train) to Osaka (2 hours, 45 minutes) and enroute, see the beautiful Japanese countryside.

Tokyo is a lively, wonderful city. Enjoy it!

Visit the major department stores and shop!

Jack Road for Gorgeous watches! Say hi to Otto if you can. A true gentleman.

Go to Kamakura to see a quaint little town - and the giant buddha.

Stay at the New Otani Hotel...mostly Japanese guests / beautiful Japanese garden. Lovely old school Hotel Vs. places filled with foreign business people. New Otani was recommended to me by Marcinthemiddle!

I usually stay with family in Kawasaki, but last spring time was for taking my wife to see Cherry Blossoms - and introducing her to the family as well.

Tokyo is a great city, and it is so much fun not to be able to read anything and to struggle to find anybody speaking anything but Japanese (or whom you can understand)! Real adventure.

If you're interested in art, the Tokyo National Museum is a very interesting place to go.

From Narita, I usually take the Narita Express train into Tokyo Station (central Tokyo) and it takes under an hour. From there, I take a cab to my hotel.

Try the Tokyo Metro for getting around the city and the various types of Japanese food available - absolutely delicious!

Notice the courtesy and well manned behavior of the hotel staff and restaurant staff.
