Planet Ocean question?

Is this strap rubber or leather? I keep reading conflictiong reports? Sure appears leather to me.

That is the leather strap. You can also get a rubber strap and a bracelet. Looks best with the bracelet in my opinion.

Thats what I thought. Even on Omega's website it says rubber strap when you click on the pic with this strap. I am thinking about buying it with the s/s bracelet and this strap that way I can switch it around every once in a while.

Ya, I have noticed a couple mistakes on their website to do with straps and colours. Not what I would expect from a company trying to move up in the market. Mistakes aren't localized to their website either. I had a boutique salesperson argue with me over the size of the Planet Ocean LM, kept telling me it was a 44mm.

This strap IS rubber... it has orange or white stitching, and looks like leather, but I've tried it on at an A.D., and have it on order for my Planet Ocean!

Comes on deployment, and it ain't cheap, but looks great! Definitly RUBBER!

(Not sure about the one in the OP's photo. Omega made one rubber/leather strap with stitching, then released a second version, as seen below, which has a bend and returns to the case of the watch, instead of having a gap between the strap and the case, as the first version did)

Very comfortable strap, water-resistant (as it's rubber), but looks like leather until you touch it!

Yes its a rubber strap I've seen it in the, well.........rubber.

Can see how it would following though.

Wrong. It's 100% rubber. I owned that exact strap on my PO Chrono...loved it. Looks like leather, but doesn't get smelly & nasty from use in hot weather or water. The leather strap shows grain lines in it, this one is completely smooth due to it's rubber construction.

it is rubber Matt.
the reason it is exxy is because of the deployant buckle
the croc looking strap is leather and the other rubbery looking one is rubber (D'oh)

My suggestion is get the Planet Ocean on bracelet, then purchase the rubber/leather strap afterwards.

Reason is, you'll save significant $$$ getting the bracelet (which is a NICE bracelet) with the watch!

I believe you only save $100 bucks by purchasing the PO on rubber instead of bracelet.

(I ordered the OEM rubber strap after purchasing my PO, and I'll purchase a non Omega deployment, to save some money. The OEM depolyment is VERY expensive!)

The rubber strap alone is close to two bills! The deployment is even more then that!

I've found another deployment at my Omega AD, which will work great with the rubber strap.

I've mentioned it before and I'll say it again here. The Planet Ocean is a diver's watch. The stitching just does not go with this model, even if the color matches the bezel. I am perplexed as to why Omega has brought out this strap....even if it is in fact made of rubber...why the stitching?

Stitched leather looks fine on a pilots chronograph or other non-divers watch, but on a diver it wouldn't last long in sea water before it started to rot.

There three alternatives to this watch:

• The Seamaster stainless steel bracelet
  
• The Seamaster custom rubber strap
  
• A good quality nylon NATO - I recently saw a photo of an orange bezel PO with a matching orange NATO. It looked very smart and would be totally safe in water.

Guess that's why Baskin and Robbins makes 31 flavors.

Personally, I find the NATO straps on the Planet Ocean to really cheapen the look of the watch. I personally can't stand it, but hey, that's ME.

As for the stitching on the rubber/leather strap, I think it looks great, and for the amount of time the watch is in the water, compared to the amount of time it's OUT of the water, I don't find the wear the stitching will receive from being in the water a real problem!

If the strap lasts me 5 years, I'm fine with it. Being I plan to switch between the rubber strap and the bracelet, and that I wear other watches besides the Planet Ocean, wear from water exposure to the "threads" is really a non-issue!

The watch really looks great on this strap... that's all I'm interested in.

My opinions on NATO straps are just that, mine. I understand many other people love 'em...

I would agree that I wouldn't put leather on a divers watch, but this strap isn't leather.

X2...I swear I was thinking of writing pretty much the exact same thing. Lets see...

Nato strap looking cheaper than the rubber - check
Stitching looks killer - check
Time out of water vs. time in water - check
Conservative estimate on how long the strap will last - check

Yep...you pretty much covered everything I would have said. From my own experience, I bought my POC w/ the stainless bracelet AND this rubber strap right out of the gate. I'm a HUGE stainless bracelet fan, but I figured I would start out w/ the rubber strap just to change things up a bit...figuring of course it wouldn't last too long.

Surprisingly enough, I NEVER put the watch on the bracelet but for a few minutes around the house. Every time I did, all I could think was, "Damn...this watch looks so ordinary on the bracelet, yet on the stitched rubber strap it really stands out!" Hence the rubber strap would go back on and I once again fell in love w/ the look (and feel) of the watch.
