opinion needed: EXPII vs DJ

a friend asked me what should he buy as first and probably only Rolex.
i said i would ask opinion on the forum.
EXPII white dial or DJ oysterbracelet
i told him he would get more pleasure with the EXPII, more versatile
your opinion?

Both are awesome but I'd lean towards a sport model like the Explorer II for many reasons.

I agree with the OP. EXP II has versatility.

It dresses up and down with ease.

EXP II Polar for me

You should have him read your other post titled "convince me to buy an exp II (white dial)"

I just bought an Explorer II and have owned two Datejusts. As a daily wearer, it is hard to imagine a better watch than the Exp II white dial because it dresses up or down with ease, is extremely comfortable and also has the better visibility and 24 hour functionality.

I vote Exp II Polar

Depends on what kind of DJ. A fluted bezel model on jubillee really isn't the most appropriate watch for wearing to the beach or fishing--though the watch certainly won't be affected by such activities. A domed bezel DJ on an oyster bracelet is a great watch and can be worn anywhere and for anything.

I personally would go with the Exp-II, but in black. The Rolex inky-black dial is a work of art, and I would really only get a white dial if I already had a black dial. The Exp-II is a better watch for really active life due to the fliplock clasp being more secure, and it has the added GMT hand. The DJ is a more appropriate size for business settings, but most of us spend more time in jeans than a suit, and the Exp-II isn't much bigger than a DJ anyway.

If he has other dressier watches - don't get the DJ now.

Go Expy II!

If I were going to purchase only one Rolex in my lifetime, then it would have to be the more iconic Rolex. And that is not the ExpII.

I just got the datejust 116200 because I wear suits 5 days a week so I am in a suit more then I am in jeans.. I was in between the 116200 w/super jubilee band or a explorer 214270 and the DJ won for me!

I went with a DJ as my first (it wont be my only tough) but I still recommend it as it is my daily wearer!
