James Bond Watch exhibit now open at National Watch & Clock Museum!
It's here!
"Bond Watches, James Bond Watches" is now open at the National Watch & Clock Museum. We cut the ribbon (so to speak), on Thursday, June 17, and the exhibit opened to the public the next morning. Believe it or not, TRF is truly among my first stops in reporting on this: I literally returned home from Pennsylvania and left the next day for Boy Scout camp with my son. As I just mentioned earlier today on my James Bond Watches Blog, the Intelligencer Journal / Lancaster New Era interviewed me and toured the space during setup. Their writeup is among the best I've seen. Of further great surprise to me was the contingency I met there from these very Rolex Forums. I'm sure they'll weigh-in with their own thoughts here. For now, let me just say what a pleasure it was for me to spend time with you all: Great fun, great conversation! Lots of still photography and video to share -- and I'll do that here as time permits. Of course, you all have been here through may steps along the way, dating back some 2+ years now. I truly appreciate the enthusiasm.

Says it goes until April 30 2011. I'm definitely going. Lancaster is a short drive from DC... ~2hrs.
Do I hear "Road Trip" DC people??? |

Although we've discussed this in I guess a number of Threads now here on TRF, it's probably a good idea to revisit some of those highlights. James Bond Watches has an Index to all key coverage of the and I'll continue to keep that updated. As far as get togethers are concerned, we might want to consider the weekend of September 10. The Museum is hosting a special "Bond Enthusiasts" program, which should be a great deal of fun. I have a media release on that and I'll post it later this week (time permitting).

I live less than an hour away from the museum, and I know another RWIS who lives in Columbia. I am trying to get there ASAP.

Thanks for posting our "official" photo!

By way of context, the image in which we appear here was taken on Friday morning. The Museum opened to the public (and NAWCC convention attendees) around 8:00am, and I'd been there since something like six o'clock taking photographs for limited release in conjunction with upcoming print and authorized Internet publication. Hence my work clothes and the lens cap visible in my pocket. Now for the important part-- wrist checks! We obviously made a concerted effort to be sure our watches showed (and some further evidenced brand preference on their shirts). Wha'cha all wearin' here? Dell Deaton: Rolex 16610 Submariner Date, similar to the wristwatch worn by Timothy Dalton as James Bond in Licence to Kill, and the last appearance of Rolex in a James Bond film.

90 minutes from Valley Forge, 120 minutes from Center City, and a little longer from PHL (the airport) because you have to go north before heading west.
Columbia is just south of Harrisburg on the Susquehanna River, not far from TMI.

Exclusive video from week we setup exhibit
Thought you all might be interested in this exclusive video from footage taken between June 14 and 17, as we were setting up "Bond Watches, James Bond Watches" at the National Watch & Clock Museum.
As I said on my James Bond Watches Blog today, it's admittedly a bit of a teaser: We're really restricting photography on this, and, as those of you who've already been there can confirm, you've really got to experience it in person to get the true effect.

Just one week to go--
Seemed like the time was right to revisit this thread - now that we're about to enter the last 7 days of "Bond Watches, James Bond Watches" at the National Watch & Clock Museum in Columbia, Pennsylvania.
Hard to believe, but, yeah: Your last opportunity to see this in-person is Saturday, April 30, 2011. Meantime, we're still seeing a great deal of mainstream press coverage. For example, I thought you all might be interested in the following (albeit as my friends here on TRF will note, an interesting, um, new abbreviation? for the Submariner line).

Finally made it to the exhibition today. As a fan of watches, Rolex, Ian Fleming, and James Bond, it was an amazing treat. Really can't recommend it enough to everyone else. I walked out and then walked back in to look at the 6538 around 3 times.

Announcement coming next Tuesday
Although we're counting down the hours until this exhibit closes its 11-month run later today, I wanted to let you all know that there's going to be a big press announcement you won't want to miss next Tuesday.

Progress Report
Suffice it to say that I can't imagine anyone on this forum not being pleased with the news we'll be announcing.
Meantime, if you have an Android, BlackBerry, or iPhone device, you can now follow daily updates for James Bond watches on your Smartphone. Or, in cases like the present, more than daily. By the way-- many thanks in particular to everyone here at TRF for their enthusiastic support of this project, throughout!
