Good bye Panerai

My local AD is booting the Panerai line. The just are not getting the merchandise. I guess this is it for me. I have no desire to start a new relationship to get the watches I want. I have been frustrated with Panerai anyway since I have hundreds of thousands in their watches and could not get anything over the past 1 to 2 years. Im sure they could care less so it will be off to audemars I guess.

Your AD wouldn't happen to be in Tulsa? I was in looking around at a Tulsa AD that carries among other brands, Panerai, and noticed only 3 Panerai watches in the Panerai section. The case could have easily held about 25. The sales lady didn't mention anything about dropping Panerai but I thought their current inventory level vs. potential capacity was odd.

Yep - imwas just going to say - try IWC or JLC (if you like Pams, the Maste Compressor loins maybe up your alley). For my large watch I went from Pam to Hublot to AP (that was short-lived), and ended up with an IWC Mission Earth and a JLC World Chrono. Never looked back.

(not my pics, working from iPad )

Both nice and large, the IWC scratched my itch for an AP Diver, the JLC satisfied my need for a complication. Plus after selling my Safari, I was able to get BOTH of these without laying out any extra cash. Only PAM I want now is the bronze submersible, other than that - I'm set.

I guess I don't understand what ticked you off to leave the brand. Sucks that the AD is booting Panerai, but I think we'll see more of that moving forward. AP is nice though.

AP's are SWEET for sure. Panerai has pretty much put it out there for AD's. They are going bye bye.

1. They love their Boutiques and have no problem in offering them ALL the good stuff. (if you want a 372, bronzo, fiddy composite, etc)
2. They recently increased their prices to the AD while maintaining the MSRP. (ie used to be 40%, not 30%....just making up the numbers, but those are what I hear).
3. Someone with Panerai C-level (ceo, cfo, etc) said Panerai is looking to the internet for sales (ie Internet Boutique).

They want the money and they are willing to accept the inventory. I hope it works for them, but I'm guessing STL will never get a boutique!

really?
how likelihood that is "the other way around"?

my understanding is that a Panerai AD status isnt easily obtained (here in the UK anyway...).

Hi Eric

Duggans in Burlington arcade stopped dealing Panerai's because they couldn't shift them. They got rid of all their stock to the trade in 2008.

Greg, that JLC looks like a serious bit of kit!

It did not occur to me to select a watch brand because it is available locally. I try to eat only regional fruits and vegetables, prefer local brand products, so I could consider buying only makes of watches that are sold in my town. I would not have to change a thing if I lived in Hong Kong, but my town has never been big on watches. The Tourneau shop told me it discontinued AP due to lack of sales. The oldest and grandest jeweler in town never carried AP. Glad I became fond of Rolex--not a bad substitute for Panerai.

Sorry to hear.
Panerai is another brand steering their business more towards the boutiques. Like others, I think we'll see more and more ADs losing the line or have difficulty getting in the more desirable PAMS.

Very interesting about Panerai. I started a few years ago and bought 3 different models. The 372 was last one.

What started pointing me to other brands was I was getting tired of waiting for new releases. Now I know from a marketing perspective there is a certain amount of keep demand high. Other brands do the same obviously, but it just seems like their models come out sooner (AP, PP and even Rolex). After 1.5 year wait for 372, when I finally got the call, I almost did not buy it. I did, and I loved it.

However, by that time I was already on to my first AP, and that started a new addiction. Like the new 448 coming out, I'm at top of list, but just don't think I can buy anymore Panerai.

Kinda of a phase I went through and it's over. Hey don't get me wrong not bashing brand or watch quality--I like Panerai, just not spending anymore $$ towards them. It will be tough to pass up 448 tough :-)

wonder if LVMH or Richemont (whoever owns panerai) is reducing production to hold market values...????
