Cheapest Place in the World to Buy a SubC

Just bought a SubC in the UK which I thought expensive. However, some of the stuff I'm reading here makes me think it was quite a bit cheap than most other countries.

On current exchange rates and excluding tax what's the cheapest RRP you can get a SubC anywhere in the world?

Can anywhere beat the UK at present, where the tax free price is £4142 equivalent to around US$6700 or 4650 Euros.

The best price I could get a Brand New Sub-C from an AD was $7000.00 USD out the door. And that was in Cali

I can get a SubC LN for about $6200 shipped and delivered from an AD in California, no tax. But this is partially because my family has purchased many watches from them in the past, not sure if everyone can get that price.

Well I purchased mine for a little less here in the states, but discounts are a bit difficult on such a amazing watch.

About to buy one... The retail price in Canada is CDN$8400.

The CDN$ is worth US$1.05 right now. Is that ridiculous or what?

There seems to be an impromptu or unspoken rule of Canadian dealers offering automatic discounts of between 18%-22% off. That would imply a "real" retail price (before tax) of CDN$6552 or US$6879.

We also pay 13% sales tax (in my province).

Not a cheap hobby!

I can't help thinking about buying my SD four years ago for £2900. Good used ones are currently fetching more than that. I'd like maybe a 14060M or DSSD, but prices have risen proportionately more than my salary.

Congratulations by the way. Let's see some pics.

best to check the exchange rates.. i have found it cheaper to buy my last 2 watches right here on TRF, from the US direct to the UK.. the $>£ exchange means that i saved around £400 ($700) buying a mint pre-owned 16613 from a respected US dealer on TRF instead of a grey private sale in the UK.

I agree my Explorer II worked out cheaper from a trusted seller on here than a UK grey dealer Is the rate good at the moment I need to check

Was the seller in the UK? I like the idea of buying on TRF and saving a few quid, however a lot of sellers are outside the UK so the potential import duty could negate any savings made on the purchase price.

Hi, yes, you do have to watch that import duty.

I'm from the UK and now live in NZ, I import heaps of stuff and quite often get hit for duty and sometime it does turn a good deal very sour.

I'm actually looking at buying a Milgauss GV and the best local price I can get is $8,500 tax free with 15% off rrp. That equates to US$6,700. I think, but may be wrong, Milgauss and Sub C have similar rrp's.

Interestingly here in NZ I managed to get 15% off rrp fairly easily with all AD's suggesting the price is loaded? I did have to push a bit and I guess some, prolly with more money, don't. We're on 15% sales tax here too, think UK are 15% or 17.5%. Eek.

seller was in florida. i got the watch in less than 48hrs from the moment my payment cleared. around 3 weeks later, i got a customs bill for £28 i think it was.
the seller had marked the item as a "tool precision instrument" with a value of a few hundred dollars on the declaration form.

all good!

next one was marked as "broken horological device".. never got a customs bill for that yet!

You may want to consider whether discussing these issues in detail on an open forum is a smart move...

Here is the information available:

a buyer in Scotland purchased a "tool precision instrument" from a buyer in Florida valued at ca. $200 and import duties of GBP28 were paid. Payment was sent by electronic means.

The same recipient in Scotland received a "broken horological device" from the US some time later, in respect of which no customs duties were levied.

If you think the above is not enough to track you down to your address and search your home, you are very naive! Whether it will happen is immaterial; it is technically possible. The maximum sentence in the UK is 2 years.

Yeah, and there's like 4 or 5 reputable sellers here from Florida.

Serving time at the expense of her majesty's just consumes more precious money

Buying in the Far East

Hi Guys,

Does Anyone have any experience of buying in Far East, Singapore or Hong Kong.
Are there any good deals to be had over in that direction?

This is completly against Rolex policy, be careful. If you like this AD, I would not give out the info over the net.

My local AD knows they get "shoped" by Rolex often. They have potential clients calling looking to ship out of state. If the customer has never been in the store before, they can easily lose their AD status. Rolex closed over 200 AD's last year, and this year more will fall. Rolex is looking for a reason to close AD's, protect the ones that take care of you.

You worry to much. The watch is bought, what you paid, or more importantly what someone paid, is not relevant anymore. Enjoy the watch! :-)
