ADs in general
Just some thoughts on ADs in general in response to problems discussed on another post. I have never had any experience with this Torneau. I visited two ADs in my area. The first was a small place but had a pretty informed sales person. There was something about his attitude though that I didn't like - couldn't really put my finger on it. Perhaps he thought there was no way I would be able to make a purchase and it showed in how he spoke to me. He wasn't rude but there was something there under the surface. Perhaps I was just being paranoid. Second AD I went to were less well informed about Rolex watches but knew enough to help me. The most important thing for me is that they took their time and treated me with great respect each time I went in. I made my purchase there and will make any future purchase there. I even felt compelled to write a thank you note to the staff there. I think this forum is great because you can arm yourself with some great knowledge before going in to buy. I'm not a WIS but I have found that I am more familiar with some models and other things than some sales people. That's great because you don't have to rely on some person who might or might now know what they are talking about.

You make some excellent points. There is never an excuse for a "bad attitude" among sales people. However, sales people that are poorly informed about the Rolex product can not always be at fault. I have a patient that has worked at a Rolex AD with three large stores for over 25 years, and each store displays approximately 150 Rolex at a given time. Therefore, they "move" a significant number of Rolex watches.
Yet, when he comes into my office and we discuss Rolex issues, I usually tell him more than he tells me, based on information I've learned on this forum and via other sources. He tells me that Rolex supplies him with little if ANY literature or resources to educate him about their products, and he rarely sees the Rolex representative. And when he does, he receives minimal updates or information from the rep. He said that once two years ago the rep brought in a short video update on products and ONCE several years ago Rolex sent him to New York to their headquarters for a weekend seminar. And he's worked there for 25 years!!!! Although the new line is being released soon, he has received ZERO information about the new SS GMT II, ZERO information on the Yachtmaster II, ZERO information on the Milgauss, etc., etc., etc. It certainly doesn't make any sense to me, but I think everyone on this site would agree that there a a lot of things Rolex seems to do that doesn't seem to make much sense, but they DO know how to sell watches. Good luck with your new Rolex, wear it in good health and it's great to know that you've found a good AD that treated you well. However, you'll probably have to learn about the watches on your own! |

My AD has some very knowledgeable people and then again has some that don't have a clue about Rolex.
Last time I went to my AD, I was "unlucky" (or WAS I?? ) that none of the knowledgeable staff was availible, so that BLONDE with the big boobies assisted me. Although it was a pleasant experience in ....... eh......"two other matters" .....in kinda ended up telling HER what there was to tell about the Rolex models I looked at

I visited an AD and was served by somebody who represented the worst of both worlds.
A lady with absolutely NO knowledge of the Rolex brand (or any watch, in fact) , with a face only a mother could love and a body sponsored by KFC.

BTW: I kept making the same mistake again and again when I wanted to say "Oyster bracelet".......it came out "Oyster breast".
I guess I was distracted

I don't expect anything from them regarding Rolex knowledge. I have done all my research already. Things I want from a Rolex AD:
1. No flipping attitude. 2. No BS lines and outright lies about products. 3. If you look insulted when I ask for a cash discount. A simple "No, we don't do that." Not a "Rolex doesn't do that!" |
