Can you tell which country/area a rolex was purchased from the serial?

I was under the impression that besides the first letter G, V, Z etc. Designates year and the rest is random, and do realize rolex now has random serials.

But are there any parts of the serial stating what region it came from, (north America, Asia, etc...) besides the actual warranty card stating which country it came from.

Thx

If I remember correctly Rolexes for sale in Hong Kong had the number 8 either associated with the serial no. or customer ref number...

To answer your question, no, the serial number is just a unique number to identify the said watch. Nothing more.

Before the now random sequence, the first letter use to give a rough guide to an approximate manufacture date, but the numbers really have no significance other than to identify one watch from another.

So if given "only" the serial number of the watch, there's no way to cross reference back to the country code on the warranty card

A Rolex service center or Rolex themselves could by refering to their own data base, but I'm not following your reasoning..
Are you trying to trace a watch to a country because you have no papers or warranty card?.

All Rolex watches are made in one place Switzerland then shipped to the varius countries world wide. Now Rolex USA is a totally seperate company to Rolex SA. So watches imported from Rolex SA into the USA for sale in the USA, dont have any country code. And all any of these Internet codes could ever tell you was a aproximation when a case or clasp was stamped. And not a exact 100% date when a completed watch was made and shipped to AD for sale.

Only rolex can provide you with that kind of information. As for obtaining country of origin just from the serial number, i dont believe its possible. You will need the paperwork to show the country of origin or rather, the country originally exported to.
