REQUEST: Can we have a separate "For Sale" section for vintage watches?
Hi, question to the administrators, can we have a separate "For Sale" section for vintage watches? It becomes very confusing looking up vintage watches for sale in the general section since get swamped by modern Rolexes there. Would be great to have a separate section if possible:).

Actually- as I've said so many times- the nicest vintage watches don't get listed publicly- they go from collection to collector. The smartest thing you can do is hang out here and get to know people. If you build relationships with the right people your chances of finding very nice pieces will go way up! The other piece of advice is to let the top people in the business know what you are looking for and when they stumble across a great example at a show or thru another collector - they can reach out to you and let you know. Lastly- be patient and your dream pieces will find their way to you!

I search by model number. For instance, 1675 lists all the 1675's in the for sale section. Easy peasy.......

well I like the idea of having a separate vintage sales place since VRF limits posting to 3 watches per day for a seller. But like mentioned by Ken is smart to let the sellers/collectors know that your looking for a specific piece

I agree. A vintage section would be a nice addition to the sales forum. Maybe it is something that the administrator here can look at adding to the sales forum. Any thoughts on this idea Steve?

As Ken has said we are not presently minded to have a vintage sales forum. The existing sales forum does cater for both modern and vintage pieces for sale.
However it is a matter which we will give some further consideration and one where the consideration of an accessories forum may also be worthwhile. Thanks for raising the topic, it's always good to consider possible improvements in the way we do things. Presently there is a limit of 5 watches per day in the forum and I wouldn't like to change that. After all this isn't a forum for commercial activities, it is a website for enthusiasts, so I can't see why we need to have more sales than presently exist. The search feature is quite effective, if you go to the relevant forum and click the search drop down box and type in the model number (1680, 1675, 5513 etc. etc.) that you want to locate. You can quickly find the vintage item. However I appreciate that if you have a general interest in all vintage models then you may wish to browse the vintage watches on offer and that may be more difficult in executing either via a search or trawling through the sales forum.

Personally I never browse the sales corner here. It is just to much... I do however always browse VRM since it is specialized in what I am interested in.
If a vintage section would be added I would spend a lot more time browsing TRF. That's just me. :) I can understand why you only have one section and perhaps it suites the general member better. It's just not for me. |

A vintage sales forum would be a great idea but it would lead to arguments since not many here can actually agree to what qualifies as vintage.

On the topic of searching, can someone tell me how to search using an "and" function? When I have multiple search terms, I get all results containing any of the search terms (an "or" function). I'd like to be able to search for posts that contain all of my search terms. I've tried using "and" and "+" between search terms but neither seems to work. Thanks!

Stevo- as you know I have been a supporter of pursuing both vintage sales section as well as accessories. Definitely worth looking into IMHO!

Just a suggestion.....In the meantime, perhaps advising those offering vintage watches for sale to include the word vintage in their title, and those selling just accessories could place the word accessories in the title. That way, until perhaps additional sections are added, we would have a simple search term to use to pull up potentially all relevant postings. A simple sticky "instruction for listing vintage and accessories" could suggest this to the lister. Not sure if this would be a viable approach, but I did want to throw it out there. Happy Father's Day, everyone!
