SS GMT vs. Tungsten Carbide Wedding Ring

Let's just say that while Rolex may use a better grade stainless, it sure as hell isn't anywhere near the strenghth of tungsten carbide.

The way my ring is made, the edges are very, very sharp. For example -- I can rub my fingernail across the edge and it will show visible shavings even with little pressure applied. However, if the ring rubs the skin, it feels dull; yeah, I know, hard to believe...

So, the point here --

I have to be more careful when I remove my watch because the inside is getting all scratched up by the ring. Not that it's a big deal since it [b]is[/i] the inside of the watch, but still, if they can be avoided with little effort, then I'd rather avoid them.

Then you might want to sell the watch to me!!!! And since it is scratched, how about a nice discount!

I hear you. I know it's just the inside of the watch but I try to avoid scratches there as well. I know that scratches will occur but I like to minimize them if possible - even on the caseback.

The future will see tungsten carbide, titanium, platinum, and carbon fiber watches.

It's evolution, no different from the acrylic to sapphire crystal.

I've already got one in tungsten carbide, and it is awesome, brilliant, and virtually indestructable.

Got a titanium piece, too. Yeah, it's nice and light, but damn -- that stuff scratches very, VERY easily.

And the point of ownership is........... Dude, un-stick it and wear it. You can't keep it pretty forever!

I mean, I'm not too worried about it, as this is going to be an "everyday" watch that I'll wear to work (retail sales) and it'll see its fair share, but I just found it "odd" that simply bumping the watch with the ring would produce such a mark. Again, oh well.

I am so OCD with new watches. I try to keep them looking brand new for as long as possible. I still have the clear sticker over the hologram. I'm just that way, can't help it.

Well I have had my new SS GMT II for nearly four weeks now and I was initially very very OCD about the first few scratches. I guess you get that point where it is so so brand new. After about a week of the first scratch I am kind of over it now and getting plenty of fine scratches on the clasp. It has been bought to be worn and looks stunning even with a few scratches.

Wear and enjoy thats what I say!!

There are some fine poishing cloths out there that are not as aggressive as a Cape Cod and can keep your gold shiny while not polishing the SS too bacly.
