Scratched!!

Does anyone know of any after market products that can fill in small (not too deep) scratches on the crystal of a watch?? My watch has a small (looks like an eye lash) 1/4 inch or smaller half moon.. its in between the (superocean and the date window) I know its really small but I just got this watch...

Thanks

I suggest you tell your other half to keep her vicious diamonds away!

I once had a scratch on the crystal of my Panerai 177 and I got rid of a small scratch very similar to this with a bit of Arm and Hammer baking soda toothpaste. Just worked it arounf the crystal for about 15 minutes, kept wiping off and checking progress and the scratch completely came off!!

Chances are, your crystal isn't scratched, but the coating is. Check to see if this is the case.

Sucks, but you cannot fill in the scratch with anti-reflective coating so you either have to live with it, or you can remove the coating completely. You'll lose the blue hue and the crystal won't "disappear" as it once did, but you'll get rid of the scratch.

From here it looks like the crystal has an AR coating, (blue reflection). It's much more likely that the relatively soft AR coating is scratched than the sapphire itself. If so, there is no fix except replacement. For that matter, that's pretty much the case with scratches in sapphire as well. Sorry.

Thats the backdraw with AR coating. This is exactly the reason I tell opticians to stuff their AR coating when I buy glasses. In time the lenses look like crap. Sorry for your dilema but there is nothing to be done except replacing the crystal.

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to get the coating replaced?

It's extremely easy (Polywatch) to remove the AR from the top side. You tape off the rest of the watch and a few minutes later it's gone. Certainly, Breitling will replace the crystal for you, for a dear cost. If it were me, I would just live with it until it bothered me too much then I'd remove the top side AR. I've seen many pics of Breitling folks who've completed the task. I actually like the look of underside AR only.

remove the AR coating=less scratchers and no blue tint, you will still have the AR on the inside, many watches, Rolex included don't use AR on the outside or in, so I don't think you will have a worse watch without it.for me it's better on the inside only as I don't like the blue tint and I find finger prints show up much more on the AR than without.

Same reason I removed the outside AR coating.
I did it with 3M scotch brite.
No problems anymore, the saffire glass under the AR is great!

Sorry to hear about your scratch. It doesn't look that noticeble at least based on your PIC though.

This seems to happen from time to time, sounds like one of the draw backs of having AR on the top portion of the crystal to begin with.
