AD Torture
The phone rings, its my AD...
Ad "Hi I've got the GMT ss ceramic bezel, just arrived. Thought you might be interested" Me "You bet, I'm on my way" 20 minutes later I'm in town, 30 minutes later still looking for a parking spot. They are building a new underground railway in Perth so half the above ground roads are closed ???? Go figure 60 minutes later I'm in the AD. AD "I'll just get the watch out of the safe" He reappears wearing white gloves holding a polystyrene shipping box. There it is, doesn't get much newer than this. Wow for the next 30 mins I'm in heaven, it is stunning. The whole thing just works and fits sooo nicely on my wrist and the new clasp is a piece of engineering brilliance and the solid links that make up the bracelet and the way the bezel just smoothly clicks and .... AD "Hello, hello" snaps his fingers a couple of times to bring me back. Me "Great I'll take it" AD "There's a problem" Me "WHAT?? How can there be a problem. You have the watch, I want to buy it. Seems pretty straight forward to me" AD "You are No 2 on the list............." One day later and I am still not over it, so close and yet so far. No1 on the list is now wearing my watch!! Sigh |

Now that is a strange story--he calls you and you visit and offer to buy the watch and he doesn't sell it to you. Have to admit that I have never heard of that before. I think the world is going crazy. Sorry you had to go through such a weird experience. I am still shaking my head on this one.

"Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress" no question. What was the purpose of his call?

I do not understand why he called you, and then even let you try on someone else's Rolex.

Not right!! When he calls you in the future-insist on a substantial discount, tell him how you feel. If he does not offer any discount, walk!!

Hang on Chaps
This story may have a happy ending. First up the Ad thought he'd round up his favourite customers, maybe 3 or so. That way at least one will buy the watch at list - Aus$ 8700'ish thats about US$7400. His trick worked, No 1 on the list has my watch. But here's the happy ending (I hope) Tomorrow I'm on a plane to the UK. Got a day in London before I head off east then back for 3 days. While I'm there thought I might check out a few Ad's maybe find a GMT duty free (approx 3000 quid = Aus$7500 or about US$6200) Any of you good folk in the Uk got any suggestions where I might try? Sunday in London then Monday through Wednesday in Winchester the following week. Maybe my AD did me a favour??? Sadly I'll miss the game - AB's vs the Wallabies. Boys from Oz by 10 points I reckon!! |

I only have one Ad in Perth, thats why all my Rollies are grey!! The last GMT ss ceramic lasted 30 minutes in the window before it was sold, AD didn't even have time to phone around. The next one is due in August and it will probably go at list as well. And list here is expensive. PS he has two solid gold versions for Aus30,000 a pop if you are interested |

hi miner, i'm in nottingham in uk here, a good distance from london or winchester (although i am a londoner).
i got my sub from one of the big chains which you will find on oxford street, regent street or bond street. bond street and regent street are off oxford street so you'll find them easily. regent and bond streets will be your best bet (upmarket shopping!) Rolex hq is also close to oxford street and easy to find, but doubt they are open on sunday (most other shops will be). 19 st james's square my sub originaly came from a chain called 'earnest jones', other rolex ad's include 'goldsmiths' and 'mappin & webb' in winchester (very nice place!) you should find chains like goldsmiths and earnest jones and probably some independent ad's. i think you will be lucky to find what you want in stock in winchester, whereas in london the shops will cater for visitors who can not wait for orders, so tend to keep stock. also remember you should claim your vat (value added tax) back (shop should give you info) which is 17.5%!!!!! hope this helps! |

no probs miner,
just hope you find what you are looking for! i believe the price of the new gmt ceramic is about £3740, but when your getting 17.5% back (lucky man!) it should be about £2860. now i'm envious! |

They get very upset with dangly bits.... > Quote from newsub I'll be back at Christmas, driving from Newcastle down to Portsmouth, have to stop in Derby to visit a mad auntie, maybe I'll use you as an excuse, leave the Missus and kids with the nutter and you can show me some of the sights in Nottingham (pubs that is) Last edited by miner; 21 July 2007 at 03:05 AM.. What an unsettling tale. I hope that you find a SS GMT II from someone besides that AD and at a discount. We're pulling for you...

Yes, I believe there is a "Watches of Switzerland" just around the corner at Leicester Square, too.
