I didn't even know someone was still writing Bond books.

I don't think this book will have any impact on what the fictional character Bond is perceived as having, using or wearing. For every person that reads this book probably hundreds (if not thousands) that didn't read it will watch the next Bond film.

And those people will see him wearing an Omega.

I double-checked the credits in Man With the Golden Gun - no mention of Rolex. But they do thank American Motors Corporation with the same language with which they thanked Rolex in Live and Let Die. It was an AMC that Bond drove in the car chase in Thailand, including the corkscrew jump over the channel. Perhaps EON thanks companies for products that are used in unusual fashion in a given movie. In Live and Let Die, the Sub was magnetic, and had a spinning saw-tooth bezel, so Rolex might have been involved with that, or maybe EON needed Rolex's permission to alter the watch. In Golden Gun, all Bond did was wear the Sub - there was nothing unusual about it.

One way to begin "testing" this good theory would be to look even further back in time, into other parallels. For example, how does your research compare to, change (if at all), based on:

Aston Martin, in Goldfinger and Thunderball?

Breitling, in Thunderball?

Other--?

Good idea. And since I'm watching the movies in reverse order, it will be easy - and a pleasure - to do.

James Bond doesn't do anythng for me one way or the other. But, he did order a "Vesper Martini" which, when you substitute Pinot Grigio and a splash of dry vermouth for the Kina Linet, makes a halfway decent martini!
