Icon7 Should I buy a Rolex on my Cruise???

Sorry if there is another thread out there already!

My wife and I have been on a few cruises and are doing another one to the Bahamas (leaving from Baltimore, MD) on Febraury 12, 2012.

As many of you know... there are a ton of high end watch shops both on the ship as well as on the Island... just wondering if you know of any that give strong Rolex discounts??

Thanks, guys! Let me know if anyone else will be on the same cruise and we can go watch shopping together!! haha

Prices for Rolex in the islands are no better than the US. All you will save is sales tax. Better going with a TRF trusted seller.

I have not seen any good watch shop on Princess Cruises, the only one I've been on.
Watch for the foreign transaction fees on your credit card. It maybe better to buy at home as well.

I travel to all islands for business and I have seen great and no so great deals. My advice: do your homework. Know your numbers. Know what is a good deal back home. If you find something better, pull the trigger.

If you are looking at something besides a Rolex good deals are available. I got a Zenith in St. Thomas for 50% off. Or would that be for 50%?

Haha... nice on the Zenith. On our last cruise I bought a TAG on one of the Island.. it listed for around $4,000 and I ended up paying around $2,500 as I recall. There is just something about being on vacation and buying a Rolex... you're always in the "mood" to spend money on vaca... and I know I'm going to want to come with something! So it'll be nice to find a Rolex A.D. who will give a nice discount. Here are our stops in case anyone knows of any A.D.s:
1) Port Canaveral, FL
2) Nassau, Bahamas
3) Freeport, Bahamas

Rolex Bahamas nothing to get excited about. I live by Fort Lauderdale and do 2 to 3 cruises per year out of Port Everglades. If you have young childeren go Royal Caribbean, if your kids are over 10-12 go RCL or Celeberty. It's a little more but well worth it. Stay away from Carnival - as the industry states the "WalMart" of cruising.

Princess = bad food in sit down dinner dining - breakfast and lunch are great.

If you want more info PM me.

Kirk Freeport in grand cayman is a great store to browse.

My recollection is, most caribbean Rolex AD's give you about 10% off US list on Rolex. Then if you don't pay tax, saves another 5-8%, question is, will the customs agent make you pay any duty on the balance after the $800 per person duty free allowance. This is where it pays to have kids. :)

I only brought one watch back from the Caribbean, a Grand Carerra, list about $4200, declared it properly, we had 3 people, so technically they could have charged us tax on $1800, but he said don't worry about it. It seems much depends on which agent you get.

I'm pretty sure when I tried on a Sub C about 6 months ago, the list was $7350 or so, the AD offered it to me right off the bat at $6700, and I felt if I had had $6500 cash, that would have worked.

OP, you ask "Should I buy a Rolex on my Cruise???" HELL YES! For me!!!!!

Id like either an new TT datejust (white Roman dial) or a new 14060.. THANK YOU! Just to be fair, I will reimburse you the US customs duties if any when you deliver it to me.

I was in the Bahamas in April. There are plenty of watches to see, but I didn't see any bargains. If anything, it struck me as a place where wealthy yacht owners might pick up a solid gold JLC. Or, maybe folks on vacation who just get over excited and buy a nice watch that they could have bought at home. Plenty to look at, though, but mostly in gold or with diamonds.

I would pass on the cruise unless you find something you just cannot live without at a great price. I also would contact one of the trusted sellers here, save yourself some $$$ and wear your new watch on your cruise

X2 on this. I have cruised Celebrity, NCL, Princess, etc. and about the only Swiss watches I have seen for sale on some of the ships are Tag's. Mostly Citizen, Seiko, and the usual cheap Asian junk they blow out for 2 for $39.95!!
Wife bought an Anne Klein watch about 4 years ago on the ship (half the cost of a land store) which is still working.

Lots of Rolex dealers in the Carribean. Just make sure you bring along the U.S. retail price list on the watch (es) you are interested in so you can check the savings. Trusted TRF sellers compete favorably.

Good Hunting!!

I agree with this one. The very best price you're going to find anywhere for a Rolex is the trusted sellers on this board. Great discounts, no sales tax, no duties.

When I was resarching, I subscribed to this thread, which was helpful.
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=175226

I bought my own new one and only Rolex from one of the trusted sellers here, and would be happy to tell you about my experience if you want to PM me.

And I've been on about 40 cruises, and I'd absolutely say pass on buying when on the cruise. You will NOT get a great deal, and as mentioned you will likely get nailed with the foreign currency fees if you use a credit card, AND you'll also likely have to pay the duty tax as the immigration agents like to watch for those Rolexes.

That's not to say you can't have a bit of fun gawking at the watches in your port stops, but it will not be the best price.

Cheers!

Suzy
