Should i buy a Breitling?

Hi Guy's

First post! I came here to learn about rolex sub, wanting the sub, i just love the sub so iconic to replace my omega seamaster everyday watch. thing is they are now sooooo expensive. even secound hand your looking at 4000 plus, which i've got but don't really want to spend on a watch, right now.

So rather then spend 4k on a used watch i've found/offered a brand Breitling Colt 2 Automatic for $1700, black face. on the Pro 2 band.
also planning on buying a leather strap and ruber band later on

Only problem is no box but inc all paper work. is this good value the dealer says retail is $3995? is this BS?

currently got a seamaster (white face) and a tudor oyster ( vintage) so Bret may make a nice addtion until my brand new sub turns up :) for my 40th birthday

I'll be buying the sub for my 40th birthday in 3 years so...

I would recomend trying to wait and get the one you want instead of settling for something else. Dont get me wrong, I have a Breitling Navitimer World. But when I got my Breitling that is the watch I wanted. It sounds like what you really want is something else, so do your best to get that one.

I'd suggest that the quote you received for a new Colt 2 is about $1500.00 high. Most are listed around the $2,300 to $2,500 (US & Canadian price range) and it is not uncommon to get a Breitling at 30% off, so that puts the $1,700 price tag for the one you are looking at in that ball park.

Interesting that the papers are available but no box.

Odd about the box, but keep in mind you'll never wear the box. All my boxes are collecting dust in my closet.

Rick, you can try to book an overseas flight for a holiday via Heathrow and buy a watch from the duty free shops there.

You can buy any watch you like, however you will not be happy unless you get the watch you love most and as per original post you want that Rolex.

Just buy the Rolex and stop wasting money and time on anything else.

if this is your first luxury watch, then wait and do some research till you really want what you like

If NOT and Breitling to add to your collection and you have the cash then why not

FYI... Breitling was my 3rd watch after Tag Heuer and Oris

Bought one of those for my Son on his high school graduation. It is one tough watch, very easy to read and can take a good amount of abuse. The bracelet is better than most Rolex bracelets. Defiantly better than the bracelet on the Sub. Rolex is only just now beginning to make a bracelet that could compete with the pro 2.

I'd say don't buy it just to fill a void. While the Colt is a nice watch, you've got to really love it to buy it, otherwise don't do it. It'll be that much more money to put into the Sub later on. Also resale on Breitling is not great at all. You'd be better off buying the Sub now if you have the means as SS Rolexes retain their value second to none and it seems like Rolex is pricing themselves closer to Patek and AP range and out of mine.

Hi and welcome to TRF!

I bought Breitling Superocean at the AD some three years ago. The price was 1600 Euros, with discount (I think that I managed to get great discount, 25-30 %).
Now, prices have gone up, but I still think that you can have better deal than the mentioned one.
And, although I think that Colt automatic is great watch, I would strongly recommend Superocean (older model, if you want to save some money and go for used or NOS), very similar to Colt that you like, but even more sturdier and with bigger depth rating.
And, movement wise, both of them are using the same ETA 2824-2 movement, in this case COSC certified and branded as Breitling 17.
If you like the watch, go for it. It`s high quality piece that will serve you well for a lifetime. My recommendation is to go for used one, because resale value is not one of the Breitling`s strong points.
Good luck.

I have an Emergency Mission and I love it. It is a beautiful watch and I really enjoy wearing it. I actually get more comments and/or compliments on it than i do on my 2 Subs.

Just got my first Breitling and love it, but Rolex is what I really love and I got three before I bought anything else. Don't make the mistake of buying something else just to fill the void.

Well put. Just hold off and get what you want. Thats kind of what I am doing. Just waiting...you'll find it. The one...the one that calls to you...the one when you put it on your wrist you just "know" then when its there in front of you, you wont mind spending the 4K+ on it.

BREITLING changed the discount structure again, the day of deep deal is loooong gone, rolex dealers get a bigger break and breitling dealers do now. so forget that crap

list on a colt auto is 2905. 1700 for a new one is good

You sound like you want a Sud. Who could blame you. Buy the Sub now, and save for the Breitling.

That is what I did. Sub 16610 then a Steelfish as a weekend beater.

Then a Zenith El Primero - every watch love should have an EP!i

Hi Rick,
Last year I was in your same situation. Wanted to get a nice watch for my 40th. Always wanted a Rolex but purchased the same watch you described (Colt Auto/Black). Wore it for a year but still had the Rolex bug. Ended up selling my Colt to fund the purchase of my Rolex.

If you will continue to want the Rolex, hold out for it. The Breitling Colt is really a great watch though. The upside is that I got to experience Breitling too, happy I did. Downside is that I lost a little $$ in the resale and could have probably had the Rolex sooner.

Slight regret..

If you're looking for iconic, Rolex is where it's at. Breitling is changing their designs too much lately.
