I may put a watch in my luggage when flying. But it is always my carry on and its only to go thru security.
Once the bag and I have passed thru screening I always dig it out and put it on. Sounds as this one and others went in checked bags. I would never do that. I think most people are trust worthy, it's real unfortunate that not everybody is.

Yea, call me crazy. Any time I travel, items of "value" are kept as close to my person as possible. But I suppose it depends on how you define "value".

agreed, when I came home from Iraq I had a watch I purchased out of the local market by a Turkish craftsmen get swiped. Granted it only cost me 150.00 but the story behind it made it more valuable to me than any panerai or rolex I have.....Never again.

This is why you don't take off your expensive watches and put them through the conveyor - neither do you have to, just show the TSA person.

"Authorities arrested Yashou on June 23 at his home after an investigation revealed the $15,000 watch had been sold to a jewelry store that had tried to sell the item on EBay. The owner of the watch noticed it was listed on the website, prompting the investigation."

In south Florida TSA = Transient Spurious Abomination.
They are truley an experience that borders on, or sometimes surpasses a bad case of explosive diarrhea.

I carry my watches with me or wear them. Nothing of real value goes into my checked luggage.

The TSA is obviously a criminal but what kind of moron puts a valuable watch in the checked luggage?
I remember my wife traveling for business recently to a Latin American country. Someone stole her electric toothbrush from the checked luggage... |

An electric toothbrush? Man, those guys must be desperate.
I always have my watch on me, and never in my check in. Also; some of the inspectors are real rough with other people's belongings. One of the guys in tegal airport (berlin) dropped my laptop :(. I wasnt impressed, and when I wrote to the guys, they just ignored it.

Glad it appears the owner will get his watch back. Hope the criminal or criminals get the justice he or she deserves.

Imagine what the conversation between him and the airline went.
